Pre rolling road checks

My car is booked in with Mech on Friday for full mapping of my MS. Although I've had the car on the road for a couple of years, it has had a new head this year and for some reason I am a bit nervous about it failing on the rollers (no fact based reason mind), as I've got the day off tomorrow I'd appreciate people inputs as to things I can check over and above: belt tension, fluid levels, prop grease, charge battery....

Also, would appreciate advise on what to take with me other than the car and a full tank of fuel....

Edited to add is a boat anchor with GSXR throttle bodies.

your whole engine bay will get a lot hotter on the rollers that it ever does on the road. Make sure all your heat shielding is in place.

My throttle cable melted on the rollers but was fin on the road and track before hand.

Mech is in Cheltenham - in the west mids you've basically got the option of Northampton or Mech - 2nd is slightly closer for me and £100 cheaper, and based on the right up on here pretty darn good...

will post results once done.

It is my intent to run with the bonnet off, as I used to melt clutch cables.....but best laid plans and all....will check everything is properly retained tomorrow.

Make sure you dont have any oil or water leaks, they dont like it going all over their lovely rollers.

With bonnet off and big fan infront of the car you should be ok.

Its a bit weird watching your car do 110mph standing still, although it means you get a good listen of your car at full chat.

if i were having this done i would put fresh oil & filter in & check air filter, plugs are good as no point trying to do a set up with iffy ignition stuff.
& do a thorough spanner check all over, as has been said to see your car doing top speed whilst not moving is something else, the noise can be quite scary as in you hope nothing breaks etc,

Hi

If your carbs are inside the bonnet. You have to run it with the bonnet on. This is due to it affecting the air flow to the carbs. Or at least a couple of back to back runs with the bonnet on and off to see if there is an effect.

But surely Mech are running a big enough cooling fan to simulate road conditions when on the rolling road. ?

Cheers Matt

Tim

They said to me it was because I was running a standard ecu. I dont really get it but that was the reason.

Let me know if powerstation are up for it I may go there myself. I was planning on going a while back with the club im in but it got cancelled.

maybe we could get a few of the south brum guys in for the day at a reduced rate?

I'll ask the question....

I might also try Mech Repairs, as despite having the original ECU, I can remap anything in it I want (fuel, ignition, warm up etc etc). What worries me is because it is not a system they will have used before, it is easier to say no! If all else fails, my tuning software has a Power Commander emulation mode, so I might try that route!

I will ask re Powerstation - I would think we could get at least 5-6 cars/builders who are keen....!?

You may be fine with Mech then.

I'm up for powerstation if it goes ahead
