OT Help Computer Problem
Unfortunately I don't have any mates who know alot about computers so I'm hoping my online buddies might help.
Something is blocking all my attempts to update my spyware & virus software.
I run avast and lavasoft adaware mostly but also have Malwarebytes and tried to download Spybot but every site I try is blocked.
W7 on a pretty new PC.
Any ideas friends?

I hope I'm wrong but recently my daughter used my laptop for only 5 mins and managed to get a virus. The first thing it did was disable my
antivirus then gradually things stopped working until in the end I had to format and start again...
as I said, I hope it's not....

No Norton but came with Macafee on but ran out & deleted at Christmas.
Tried downloading Google Chrome but same problems. Won't even recognise malwarebytes.org is a site.

I've unchecked the tick box in "windows features & settings" and restarted.
Can't see a delete in Prgrammes & Settings?

Can you get the bbc by using this ip link which isn't going to use dns Linky
Cheers
Rich
If that does work try flushing your dns, start button, immediately type cmd and press enter and black command prompt box will appear, now type
ipconfig /flushdns and press enter. Restart pc and see if that helps, if not then it could have dns poisoning issue if you can still get to sites
using ip addresses rather than dns names.

Probably not . got this ----
Sorry, the address you have found is not currently a public BBC server.
You may have tried a .co.uk url when the site you are looking for is .com. E.g. http://www.bbcworldwide.co.uk rather than http://www.bbcworldwide.com.

Just a thought, your router maybe giving you your dns, have you tried restarting your router??

Using Google Chrome now and having done the above I can get the bbc.co.uk and the google IP but if I type in www.malwarebytes.org it says it
can't find it.
If I try and update Avast, Lavasoft, Malware Bytes etc I get a server error. I tried downloading Spybot but again it won't connect.
Somthing in there doesn't want me to update my spyware & antivirus defenitions.
I used to be apathetic but now I just don't care.

Do you know when this issue started, you could restore your pc to an earlier time.
Start button, immediately type system restore and then press ok, and following the wizard.

I tried a system restore earlier and it made it worse. Avast would not run at all.
Set it back and everything seems to run OK but just won't let me update anything.
Tried that conficker link and all seems OK. Get all six pics.

Currently got an agent from Malwarebytes trying to sort it. Says it's a root kit" or something.
Thanks for the help anyway. Will let you know if I sort it.
Must be some form of virus I guess. If all else fails I'll just have to blitz it. I'm blaming W7.

Don't think you're going to fix it mate, and I think it'll be beyond us doing it remotly too so a reload may be the best option.
Did you get a recovery dvd/cd with it or does the product have a recovery partition? What is the product?
Cheers

Yeah I've got a recovery disk so I may have to resort to that.
Everything seems fine except the updates but if something is in my system I want it gone.
Up at 6 tomorrow so time I was gone.
Thanks guys and I'll post if I sort it.

Try and run an antivirus from a thumb drive.
Spyboy S&D works... Just install it on a working and clean pc, update it all fully, then copy the entire program folder from programs on your
hardrive to the thumb stick, then run it in the pc.

Been a while since I've needed it, but Combofix always sorted me out. Dunno if it works on win7 mind.

Had a nasty virus a couple of months ago that hijacked my browser and wouldn't let me boot in safe mode. HijackThis helped me get my browser
back and I was able to run Trend Micro antivirus that correctly identified the virus but didn't really fix it.
I found detailed instructions for removing files and fixing the registry at www.bleepingcomputer.com once I had the proper name of the virus.
Once you get your computer back to normal, I heartily recommend disabling DCOM (Google for directions). No one will ever be able to operate your
computer remotely again, but boo-****ing-hoo.
