Striker weight loss now with pics
Been in the garage today working on the car a long day but lots done,
Total weight loss on the car now an impressive 58kg,
Fitted new will wood brakes today and mangaed to modify and fit my caterham r500 magnesium alloys with cr500 tyres, very nice indeed,
I think that's all I am likely to loose now nbut very happy with that, wheels and brakes saved over 9 kg a corner,
When I was fitting the brakes I noticed the hubs was different on each side they are ford Capri , escort uprights but one hub the disc takes up the
space of the hub and about 100mm ish but the other it has the hub joining the disc with and insert of only about 10 mm hard to explain will post some
pics up to help description,
Can't wait to get it all finished and on track now,
Thanks all,
hub 1

You can't make a post like that Sean and not put any pictures up
Thats better,
You can't understand why someone would fit different hubs like that, very strange

How'd you get the 13" wheels to fit? Do you have an IRS striker?

Very good! Do you have a list of what you binned/changed apart from wheels/tyres/brakes? Would be interesting to know!

...and you could get 2 from the same car. Not sure which hubs come from what car but those aren't from the same vehicle. I'm sure
there'llbe an Escort/Cortina/Capri expert along soon to identify them.
Just had a look through an old brake catalog ang can't identify the second picture as any of the above, but there ae some gaps in the listings.

Yep could replace the hubs but looking at the 2 pics they are different so just wondered if anyone new why? They are all the same geometry but just
wondered why this discs / hubs are differebnt ?
I list up the bits later for you,
Yes it's a IRS chassis quite a bit of fettling with the hubs and A arms changed the top joint to a Rose joint etc will try to get some pics at
some point,
Cheers any one like to take a guess at the discs / hubs,

Wow - great results.
I have a list of weight-loss proposals on my blog about the car rebuild
FuryRebuild.co.uk, but at the moment, i'm hitting the low-hanging fruit, like an
engine swap.
I haven't started but will also do the things such as shortening all bolts that need it, etc. I don't feel the urge to get as fanatical as
a friend of mine to drills out his bolts as well. Saying that, he wins championships in his TR7 so he knows what he's talking about.
I do have to require lots of the engine bay, so will be going to get lightweight wire to take the current - seems silly not to.
Great post - please keep up the details on this one.
Thanks
Mark

List of bits
1 removed full screen for aero screen,
2 removed wiper motor and arms
3 moved washer bottle
4 removed all carpets and centre tunnel top, replaced top with Ali panel carbon 3m wrapped
5 removed cibbie 7 "headlights for smaller 4" lights
6 removed and replaced cat silencer for a carbon and Ali can over 4 kg saved here, will post pic of can once fitted looks the dogs wotsits,
7 removed m16 brakes for will woods powelites and mintex 1144 pads solid discs,
8 changed wheels from 15" with Toyo tr1s tyres to caterham r500 wheels with cr500 tyres over 6kg a corner saved on these alone
Total loss 58 kg
I could go crazy and save more weight by changing front hubs, changing all etb dials to digi dash, rear callipers to powwrlites, light weight body
work bonnet and nose cone, but I think I'll stop here for now,
As I'm near my target weight off 500 kg,

When I was collecting parts I had a 3.0litre capri front hub that looked like the second picture. It was a while ago though.
Surely this is a great excuse to swap to two identical alloy hubs?

Are the discs not different as well? Seems odd to run different hubs side to side.

Any pictures of the wheels fitted on the car Sean, still can't make my mind up on which 13" wheels to go for on mine, the Caterham, or
CXR's or the Pro race

Yeah you'd only need to change them if you were seriously trying to reduce the weight. £300+ is a lot to spend to save a few more kgs.
