I must admit I'd not heard of him but cried with laughter at faulty microphone.
Similar thing happened when Victor Borge died, I love his phonetic punctuation

Sad news, I did have the pleasure of working with him for a summer season here, and working as a sound engineer at the time, you never really could
tell his act from a genuine mic / mic lead failure - caught me out on many occasions.... Another comedy legend gone.
RIP
