Strange ABS Light on my tintop -I need your advice, What do you think?

2001 51 reg ford focus old school TDDi 160,000 odd miles

I've got an ABS light up along with the brake warning light (same one as handbrake light) stay on all the time, not intermittent

Been like this since I bought the car

Thing is, I dont have, and never have had ABS fitted to the car, there are no sensors and no pump

(I've done driveshafts and brakes all round so should have spotted something if I have ABS)

Tried ECU reset (disconnect battery, join leads together and leave for 10 minutes)

No wiring faults with the handbrake switch or brake fluid sensor circuitry - I'm convinced it is something to do with the none-existent ABS problem

I'm really at a loss with this one - tried to get it on diagnostics but cant seem to get my cheapy Bluetooth adaptor to connect

any advice really appreciated

Cheers

Matt

Check a fuse hasn't been put into a random vacant slot that shouldn't be occupied on your model.

Do you have a dodgy brake fluid level sensor? Possible that it thinks you have low brake fluid and is giving a fault.

That'd be my first guess.

Shoild problems persist, remove the bulb.

A 51 plate focus wouldn't have the standard abs sensor and trigger wheel setup - it woul read wheel speed from the back of the wheel bearing.

They are also common for random instrument panel faults!

Think I've figured it out

The instrument cluster was out of a breakers yard. I guess the cluster was set up for ABS and was looking for the ABS controller, when it couldn't find it, it fired the ABS light,

Thanks for all the replies folks!
