Titanium goodies
I just thought I'd show these off here, my brother has knocked up some new steering rack extensions for me on his lathe to replace the usual
mild steel ones.
He managed to get hold of dome titanium which was perfect for the job!
The old pair weighed a total of 616 grams
The new ones, 356 grams! Almost half the weight.
I know it's only 260g, but every little helps!

The weight saving doesn't matter. The bling and bragging properties are off the scale

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

Yes, the weight saving is no bad thing, but the bling and talk-ability of it is sky high!
They'll not rust either

looks nice, only thing with titanium being so strong you could make them a lot smaller diameter in the middle and still be stronger than steel ones,
saving even more weight!

I know, I need to get the rest tidied up now! that'll be done over winter.
As for making them thinner and lighter, from what I have been told titanium is quite easy to sheer.
I know the forces in the steering are push/pull, but still felt a little uneasy making them thinner. After all, if one of these breaks you're in
trouble!
Another thought we had was to drill further into the body, atm it is only drilled and tapped about 40mm deep.
100-120g should be quite possible I would think, but with no way of testing how strong it is then I'm reluctant to go for it
Next up is a couple of Ti lock nuts to replace the mangled steel ones!

Surely that modification has added at least 10-15 BHP?
