Zetec cams
morning all
I have a 1.8 zetec blacktop, and have just bought some 2l cams and lifters. i thought the blacktop lifters were hydraulic, as the ones i bought (said
to be out of blacktop) seem to be solid with shims on top.
Can i still put the new cams in with my old lifters??

Silvertop - hydraulic, Blacktop - solid/shimmed. If you have recieved solid lifters with the new cams that is right. Your 1.8 should also have solid
lifters.

As above, also the silvertop has the waterpump pulley just above the crank pulley while on the blacktop it's offset to exhaust side.
Also it doesn't mean if the rockercover is black that it is a blacktop, could be painted afterwards.

Then its a phase one, i.e silvertop. (same as mine). The cams you have bought are for the later phase three (blacktop) engine.

Yup sounds like phase 1 if DOHC on cam cover, probably the cam cover has had a paint job.
Easy way to decifer is by engine numbers, phase 1 silver top 1800 will have 3 ltters stamped on the block near the crank position sensor as well as
engine numbers.
phase 1 1800 should read letter R to denote 1800 then either letter D for 105 cams or letter K for 115 cams or letter Q for 130 cams, 3rd letter is
random or denotes power or what car.
Hope this helps
