GeorgeM - 23/1/10 at 08:38 PM

When I was 18, the Astra MkII hadn't even been launched!

Its all down to finance.
When we were buying cars it was a couple of hundred that you had saved up.
Now kids can get 10 grand finance as easy as wipe their arse with an asbo.
My brother is a repo man, he has never been so busy taking really nice cars off people that could never afford them in the first place and should never have been given credit.
That is unfortunatly one of the reasons this country is in the financial state it is. We are in a 'credit generation'

Oh, FFS...
You ALWAYS leave them standing? Your XJ6 (not sure what it is TBH, so sorry if I'm wrong) always beats 250+bhp 4WD cars off the line?

I thought only the wrx models were 250hp (i would be as suprised as you if im wrong!)

ETA - Yep its an XJ6

I'd assumed that the thread was about turbo's, WRX'x and STi's rather than the 1.5 litre version. I don't think that the OP would've had much trouble leaving the 1.5 behind

I'd still favour a 4WD off the line than a 1.5(ish) ton XJ6, even if it were 180/200/225bhp... But since I def wasn't there when you beat ALL those Scooby's off the line, I'll have to take your word for it...

ETA - for speeling...

It's easy - I can do it on my pushbike! The trick is to set off before the lights change!

mookaloid - 24/1/10 at 11:57 AM

I would expect a big torquey engine like a Jag to beat a Scooby off the line - maybe up to 25-30 MPH even

after that the scooby would leave the Jag for dead

iank - 24/1/10 at 12:23 PM

Easy to beat any car off the line at traffic lights if they don't know they're in a race until you're in front

Richard Quinn - 24/1/10 at 01:05 PM

I don't get caught out. Always assume that you are in a race until it is evident that you're not. Even if you are not in a race, leaving two strips of rubber will help next time you are in a race at that particular set of lights.

t16turbotone - 24/1/10 at 02:41 PM

My younger chav brother has sti scooby, my dad has v8 jag...sorry.... but the scooby easily leaves the jag for dead.
However my little bro says there are a lot of 2.0 sport models (non turbo) scoobys going round dressed as sti and wrx!!!

Richard Quinn - 24/1/10 at 03:09 PM

Sheep in wolf's clothing! How sad!

I think i may be missing something. My original post was regarding chavs, not all about subaru's.
Im sorry if it has been interpreted wrong or if i have offended you with it!

meany - 24/1/10 at 04:59 PM

Not offended me ..im used to it...lol

be interesting to see what a persons defonition of a "chav" is, when in relation to cars.
im too old to be a chav...

steveiow - 25/1/10 at 08:44 AM

Having had a couple of scoobs and a couple of newish evo's, I can honestly say that a decent sti is very fast from a standing start. My Type RA was 1050kg and running 350bhp - could hit 60 from a standing start in less than 4 seconds.

Dont presume if a scoob has no bonnet vents its a sport and not a turbo - many now go for a front mount intercooler like I had and then dont need the scoop so change to a sport bonnet. A wolf in sheeps clothing.

They are great cars. I have just moved from scoobs back to evo's as scoobs are fast becoming a clits car - every c*nt has one.

They are lots of fun and you can go damn fast in the wet, but my little locost is far more fun. Its also about 6 secs faster a lap round Cadwell with its 100bhp than my 350bhp scoob track car was. Its not all about off the line.
