ARDS Medical Cost
eddie99 - 27/8/10 at 11:08 AM

Just rung up my local surgery, explained i needed a medical for a motorsport license, which is bascially visual, blood pressure and urine test. Put me on hold and came back to me saying £174.

Am i being ripped off? I got told to expect a £50 cost.....

Are you mates with a GP? Any GP can do it, doesn't have to be your registered one. My mate did mine FOC

£175 is very high!

My surgery has a price list on the wall, tell them its for a driving licence, cost me £40 last December...

I knew the old doctor very well but he retired over the summer, i assumed it had to be a registered gp... Might give him a call

Wow. that's quite expensive. I think we charge £85 though the going rate is £100. £175 is a bit of a rip IMHO, the form and paperwork doesn't take that long......

The "£50" thing hasn't been correct for donkeys years. In fact I wrote to PPC and corrected them a while back when they said you could get a medical for that much.

The £50 was the going rate for a simple statement of health connected with a different driving (IE DVLA) form. Of course some receptionists won't know the difference between this one and the racing certificate which requires an examination and whilst the doc might ring reception to ask if the patient has paid they probably won't check how much so people have "got away" with it so to speak....

Fozzie - 27/8/10 at 12:36 PM

Be careful that you are applying for the right type of medical. Most receptionists don't know that the requirements are different for a F1 type medical as opposed to a National B race......

My old doc used to use the lorry drivers tariff as the bits to be checked were more or less the same as the National B race .....

My OH got caught out, and ended up going to have a cardio test too.....(as per F1type grade) ..which cost him a bomb and he didn't need.....

I had the same the other week for my HGV class 1 and PCV medical,I called my doctor to arrange, she could not fit me in for at least 6 weeks and wanted £140.
So I called drivers medicals, "link below" fitted me in within 3 days and only £49 there's one in Chelmsford, you could give them a try.

Hi

As above my GP charges the rate as HGV. And that's with the extra complications of being a diabetic.

Cheers Matt

had mine done about 3 months ago by my gp, had to be after 6pm and got charged £40

steveiow - 28/8/10 at 01:51 PM

I paid £50 about this time last year.

ShaunB - 30/8/10 at 04:39 PM

I paid £60 back in March at my local GP.

It's less involved than an HGV/PSV so I agree that £175 is excessive. Trouble is a lot of GPs are busy enough with the NHS work and can do without additional private medicals and therefore price as such. Some also hear 'race licence medical' and assume the worst in terms of how involved it is and the responsibility/liability involved. You could try showing them the form which should be reassuring.

I'm prepared to do some at the Birkett at Silverstone in October at very special rates for 750MC racers.

Well on thursday i took the form into the gp that told me it was £170, they said come back friday pm when the manager was there. Went back then and the manager told me it would be £29.50. I felt like asking for 2. Had the medical this morning, all good, paid my £29.50 and have booked my ARDS test for Thursday PM at Snetterton.
