I spent a couple of races holding out boards, the same as every other driver in the race.
After the race we asked if the driver was OK with the info.
He admitted he never looked at it once.
In a bid to try and make the pit board more visible I was thinking of adding some lights to it, anyone know if this ok or does it break every MSA rule?
have you ever seen a race series with them?
Its not the pit-board thats the problem, its the driver.

As far as I know it's not against the rules. For 24 hour racing we either had a lamp above the board or when we got really pro a backlit board
with black numbers/letters on transparent supports.

Thinking further on this subject I'm surprised than in F1 the pitboards are so ordinary.
In a sport where spending bucks is of no consequence it seems odd that McLaren, Red Bull Ferrari etc all seem to have bought the base model from Demon

That could actually be quite a cool project.... Create a network of LEDs... buy a commercially available driverboard and have your very own dot-matrix messaging system... if your clever about it you could stick up a "finger" to the opposition :p

The LED versions are quite hard to actually read at speed. As per Mike capon the best solution is a simple back lit version. Spent some time with Mike
Topp and his project off doing them. Simply get the translucent material and get the numbers cut out in black vinyl with the actual number removed,
simple light behind and bingo very easily seen pit board. Also works a treat in the day time also with the light off.

Only the same as Procomp said. Negative letters and compile the information in tiles before hand.
Could you not use one of those party flash sign things you have to wave really quick?
Or get a radio intercom?
Or glow in the dark transfers and a 'charge' lamp to keep them under?
Or an LCD tv with laptop connected.
