Hi guys,
I should be picking up this Locost today all being well. Its cheap as I am on a budget but really want one.. I joined this forum in 06 when i nearly
bought one
I know this is a daft question just by the pics but is there anything you can tell me about the car just from what Ive shown you ??
Its running an XE on 40's and im excited about getting it later.
PS. I HATE the alloys.
Thanks, Yodi

^ No airfilters.
You might want to sort that one out sooner rather than later.
mind letting slip how much it costs?
It doesNT look bad for a budget buy!
40s are a bit small for an xe, but completely capable.
do you know the general sorts of questions you need to be asking? I'm not sure how much info the seller has given you already

This is my first kir car guys so take me as a newbie to the scene but far from a newb to the car world.
Carbs will get replaced with 45's and filters so not worried about that... And I take it you mean not a bad buy?
Between the seller and his brother they have had it 18 months and have given me lots of info, its a coscast xe,, new seats top end rebuild but I dont
know much regarding the chassis. Its on the HPI as a 'LOCOST CROSSFLOW'
Price is £3250
Check to make sure the paperwork's all in order i.e. is it described as a locost on the V5?
For sure the switches wouldn't have passed SVA unless they were added later or the car was registered pre-SVA.
You don't want hassle once you've bought it with DVLA when you change the registered owner.
BOL.
Cheers, Pewe
Give it an absolute thorough going over. Just looking at the rear of the bonnet bulge, if this is the standard elsewhere i.e chassis welding, you might want to leave it. Saying that, it could be just fine, with GRP not the guys forte. Difficult to tell from pictures. Bear in mind you can buy a lot of car for 3k these days.
Thanks for reply guys
why would the switches not pass??
I'm going to check the chassis as best I can for wedling etc etc.
What is wrong with the rear bonnet bulge that you can see??
And there may be other kit cars for 3k but not with an XE all the others I have seen are Pintos
buy mine instead " target="_blank">http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=118307
price is neg of course.
I think I would want something a bit smarter for that kind of money.
for me it's about £2 to £2.5K but if I was going to spend £3k+ I would want it to be right from the off not having to buy new wheels and carbs
straight away. - before you know it, it would owe you £4.5 K which puts you in Indy territory.
Just my 2p worth but you can make your own mind up
Cheers
Mark
Ive had more mk1 and mk2 escorts than Ive had dinners so sorting the parts out IE carbs and wheels isnt a problem and wont cost anywhere near 1.5k to
buy and change...
Infact I have a set of revo's still
Conrodkid your link doesnt work, any pics and price?? 3k is my absolute MAX and dont want pinto or xflow

IMHO the value of a Locost is all in the build quality, far more so that a kit.
Again IMHO, you should not look at any car through rose tinted spectacles.
Don't buy because you want one. Buy it because you want THAT one.
I always take someone with me, just to have a neutral party to chat things over with.
In saying all that, I hope it all works out for you and you end up a happy bunny.
Cheers

Thanks for that mate, I've been on the tools for 13 years and play with Aircraft all day so I will notice a poo box
Posted up mainly because you guys might say - Ah that car I remember the build blablabla or omg look how he fitted the ...... etc etc
Like I say my first kit car, my MK2 RS2000 got stolen in MArch and I haven't had a toy since.

is it just the colour you don't like or the whole wheel ?

There is no short term after I get the car the wheels are off... 2 weeks max lol
I've added another pic so you can see the wishbones etc, not great but you get the idea. What can you guys tell from that??
Thanks, Yodi
It looks like Ron built it and had change from his £250.
There are better cars advertised on here for less money. I would look at them first.
Just my 2p worth and I am a grumpy old fart
No worries mate I appreciate your reply but as you know im new to kit cars so would appreciate a reason behind why you say that and what to look
for??
What can you see with your experience that I can't??
I've looked on here, ebay and piston heads and cant find any other car for the same money that takes my interest or has the same spec.

Have a go in it and if it doesn't have any nasty surprises it doesn't look bad. It's a home made car after all and if you are able to alter the bits you want then it will gradually become the car you want. You can always try chipping him on the price, factor in buying a decent set of shocks etc. as they look like Robin Hood ones which are adequate but not perfect.
Thanks guys
I think I am going to buy it, I say that on the basis there are no nasty suprises when I see it in real.
The shocks are Spax all round.
The car works which is whats inportant to me, I have the time effort, money and patience to tidy the car up and make it mine etc but dont to build one
from scratch. The car works and is useable which is important to me, cosmetics are easy and enjoyable to change

Yes and thats probably reflected in the rest of build, if you can't get the small things perfect then what are the major things like...?
just my 2p's worth
I bought it today
Happy days, I absolutely love it. Yes it needs some TLC but nothing majot at all, it goes very very well
