Anybody have recommendations for 'free' photo editing software?
Phil
gimp is free, a bit like photoshop, very powerfull but takes a bit of time getting used to it.
Cheers

gimp +1
Photoscape is excellent
Google picasa is supposed to be pretty good.
Gimp +2
Free, and powerful. Quite complex, but easy enough to do the basic functions (resizing, fixing red-eye, correcting colours, etc.). You can also do
advanced editing, if you're prepared to learn stuff.
Available for Linux (usually included in a distribution) and Windoze.
Gimp for bitmap "editing"...
Irfanview for bitmap viewing resizing format change...
Inkscape for Vector...
Scribus for DTP...
All excellent.

I use Gimp and Picasa, Gimp more technical, Picasa easier, although Windows live photo viewer has a quick fix that even straightens crooked shots
Paint.NET is pretty good as well
Paint.net is very good if it does not do somthing there is a HUGE list of installable add ons that do most things
used at work & home

For the simple stuff ie getting your photos cropped & looking better Picassa.
For really serious stuff use The Gimp
I remember seeing one program where you told it what was where and it went and found pictures. So you'd say "Guy jumping on a motorcyle" and "lion chasing" and it would make you a picture of a lion chasing a guy on a bike.
