what is needed to run the server?

i have a amd k6 550mhz with 448mb of ram it can connect to the internet aswell, only shares things like e-mails, music, desktop and my documents. could this run as always on server possibly for the game because it already is always on for those other things

only objections i would have is if it used too much of my bandwidth because its only 2mb/sec and if it made the server become easily hackable

Hi guys,

Make sure that the below ports on your firewall are open. If not, you won't see any online games. If you see other games online, though, make sure you have spelled the name of the game right...

From the LFS forum:
"ADVICE: If the server connects to the internet through a firewall the > TCP and UDP ports which are used by LFS (default: 63392 and 29339) > have to be forwarded to the server."

P.S. I am not sure I will be available for a game tonight, most probably not, but will see. How about a big race on Saturday again? That could be a fix game...

I have watched the replays of the Saturday races... The last corner tricked many of us... beware of the inside kerb. Hit it and you roll...

Even though LFS is quite realistic, I don't think a car that rolls at 70 MPH and then hits the armco could continue the race... I have read on the LFS forum that it is planned by developers that damage simulation will be more realistic in the next versions. This is still a development version. Pretty good for that...

By the way, if you want to record a multiplayer game for replay afterwards, hit "2" after you finish the race and it will record the race for you until that exact point from the beginning of the race.
I can't wait for the next race!

You can also create individual designs for your cars in Photoshop and if we all save the skins (jpg images) on our own PCs, we can see the full race designs of each other. Just open the file XFG_DEFAULT.jpg from your LFS folder/data/skins and manipulate it and save with another name. You will be able to select that in game. If you want to save someone else's to see but not use, save it tos folder skins_x. Simple.

I try to attach my simple skin here... I have never tried attaching before, not sure it will work...

Don't worry too much about settings. You can download the one that the World Record is set with, that should be good for all of us... The WR is 1.32 with the FWD car...

I try to attach that WR setup, use this and we'll all have the same. It doesn't matter what setting we use as long as we all use the same. Or at the beginning of the next race we can send the setups around to all, then a quick trip to the garage and you select the setup and that's all...

But I try to attach it, save it in your LFS folder/data/settings

When i try to download i just get viewthread.php not the file.

I have just tried and it works for me... You will not be able to open the file, just save the .set file in your LFS folder/data/settings.

My home server does run 24/7 anyway so thats not a problem (ignores the shouts of geek)

as an aside is anyone actually gonna pay for the game? im seriously thinking about it just by the fact of how much fun its been so far, however this would lead to a couple of problems, the server has to be run in either demo mode or paid for(S1 or S2) so i dont think that anyone who just has the demo would be able to play with anyone that has bought it. although i do believe their is a keygen somewhere....

I am planning of buying it in the next couple of weeks. Don't buy S1 though, S2 is the way to go... more cars, tracks and lots more racing opportunities.

If you buy S2, you can still log on to any demo game and indeed host a demo game, so that should not be a problem.

But if Locostbuilders will run in S2 with cars and tracks only available in S2, then the demo guys won't be able to join... So I guess we should keep demo until at least a good couple of people have S2, then run 2 servers maybe, 1 demo and another S2... or a race series in S2 with different tracks or cars each Saturday... that would be fun and would be very competitive...

I think I might have been a bit annoying last night! Sorry to the others racing! Here is a replay of some practice laps I just did - by no means perfect, by any stretch! But they might give an idea of how i was getting in the 1:36's.

Just stick in in your LFS/data/mpr/ folder and it will appear in the MPR replays list. 1:36.24 i think. And is my best to date...I know there are others on here who are quicker though!

Have a look at www.lfsworld.com its quite impressive for javascript! all the world records and setups are available there.

Just tried the full version of the game, nice especially the sevens , and sub minute times in the f1 car although I'm not sure that the F1 car should be easier to drive than a seven

iiyama, join the raceand remind one of s to send you the WR setup. Press N untilyou see the connections, and if someone sends you the setup, the SS will be white next to his name. You click on it, save it and in the garage select it.

Ive bought S2, if you want to race the S2 cars and other tracks then youll have to do the same.

Im getting pretty bored of the demo cars/track to be totally honest.

Is S2 worth it? I am planning next week...

in my opinion yes, the other cars are wicked you get access to proper slicks as well, also you get your best laps recorded on lfsworld.com and more tracks!

Just bought S2 now... Playing with the cars... It seems fun! Especially the new tracks! The engine sounds are not really nice though... but that can be customised...

While in-game type /edit_eng and then press Shift-A. The editor allows you to save and load profiles.

Thought I was being right clever... Bought a Logitech force feedback wheel and pedals today for £20. All in good condition.

Even better when I got it home. Have original disc for Toca2.

I just spent the last 2 hours trying to workout why I cant seen the wheel etc in the Windows software. Another hour searching for updates etc... little note in a text file Says.... Not Supported in XP or Vista.

Wednesday is probably not good for me... Saturday is OK.

If you have S2 try the STCC servers - they only allow new racers to join their New&Bronze servers where you can race the Minis and the XFGs, but you earn points in the process that will allow you to race other cars later. The Minis are great and the racing is always fair and close. I highly recommend it! Plus you get to know the tracks in a slow car...

So Saturday I am racing, if no-one joins the Locostbuilders site, I race the STCC for sure!

Unfortunately you do need to buy the S2 licence. I thought you had it...

Because it is S2 the racers are usually more fair and in a Mini race there are usually up to 20-23 racers in a race which is good. Lots of overtaking and blocking. If everyone races fair it is great fun, especially that the Mini is easy to drive, but not easy to drive quickly - little power...

Well, race Demo then, there are some nice servers there too!

I would recommend getting S2 then going on the STCC New&Bronze server to get a license, the racing is very good and if you get up to the top the racing is clean and fair, the bottom end of the pack though tend to be very new players who wont budge or allow you through evan though you have the inside line and marginally infront of them at turn in, usually taking you out

If we can get enough players with S2 it would be cool to have a race better circuits than blackwood

Great stuff! I have S2 since a couple of months and it is brilliant. I only don't have too much time to play, but the cars are mostly great and are really different to drive.

I suggest the STCC new and bronze servers for Mini racing in the beginning to learn the tracks. There are always lots of people racing there, so great fun.

Skins: When in the garage, click create new on the left hand side, give it a name, then go to the bottom and chose the one you have saved in your data / skins folder. Skins X or something folder is for skins you want to see on other peoples cars, but not use yourself, so make sure the skin is in the correct one...

My racer name is {FIB}Gav spend quite a bit of time on the STCC new&bronze S1 server as i carnt progress my license any more with the mini's, also spendquite abit of time on the FIB servers, currently im practicing for the IGTC next round in the FZR

My racer and LFS names are both Gergely. I usually race STCC Minis or XFG as well to earn some points and get to know the tracks. Usually Saturday evenings.

I use the same skin for all of my cars, its a rusty texture I cropped to the required size and so it fits all cars...

But I have another texture I never used myself.
Can't be anymore Locost than this... just rename for the different cars you want to use it for. This is for the XFG as an example...

I am not good with photoshop so if you need something nice, I am afraid I am not the one that can help...

But when you race online, the other guys skins are saved in your SkinsX folder, you can check those and if you like something as a base, you can change it and save it in your skins folder.

Race on Saturday? Maybe all of us joining the STCC?
