Locost rep feedback from Cadwell Park

Well where do I start...

Friday testing proved invaluable for some enabling them to get a head start in terms of learning the circuit pre race day. Jason Gibbons was putting in some seriously quick times along with other front runners, while Mark Gogle has just about used his bad luck up for this season after his engine failed and he withdrew from the weekend. With an exceptional 42 entries, 1 heat and 1 final each day and 2 qualifying sessions on Saturday morning there was lots of track time for your money and plenty of opportunity to get the cars competitive with the added bonus of dry weather on both days. The Locost Formula welcomed two new racers, Nik Aveyard and Barry Stuart.
Thirteen of the quickest drivers went straight through to the final Saturday with the remaining 15 from the heat making up the grid. Simon Wood won the heat.
The final was unfortunately red flagged for an incident at Hall Bends which left a three lap sprint won by Bio fuel driver Matt Cherrington, with Ed Pither second and Dave Bartholomew third.
Several “racing” incidents left a few cars in various states of disrepair with 2 so badly damaged they would need major structural work to make them race ready.
The heat was won by fellow Norfolk driver Richard Jenkins.

Sunday’s final, in glorious sunshine, went very well until the penultimate lap when a 2ft wide oil slick was left from the beginning of Hall Bend right round to the top of Charlie’s One catching out a few drivers (me included), fortunately most slowed the pace and managed to finish, more importantly those that went off suffered no physical injury.
Third place was awarded to Dave Bartholomew, swapping with Ed Pither who took runners up spot to….. ………Yep… winning for the 4th race on the trot Matt Cherrington who takes his next massive step within motorsport at Castle Combe next weekend competing in the Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup driving a Seat Leon FR.

Best of Luck Matt!!

I would like to thank the Locost racers for their continued support and look forward to seeing you all at our 10th Anniversary meeting to be held on Saturday 22nd of August at Silverstone.

Remember we have a parade lap planned for ALL LOCOST’s (INCLUDING ROAD LEGAL) so please come and support our decade of motorsport…
