Soap box kart progress
More progress last night, got the steering uprights finished and attached to the chassis. All seems to work OK, with tonight's task to
fabricate the steering column and supports. Rod ends are on order along with threaded rod to make up the track rod arms. Race day is Sunday 30th @
2pm
Steering geometry has roughly 2 degrees negative camber and 6 degrees caster. Steering arms have been set with Ackerman geometry aligned with the
centre of the rear axle line.
My welding is improving all the time too, with better metal prep and setup I'm getting the right penetration.

Don't be fooled, I'm building this for me (but don't tell my son). My neighbour won last year and needs beating this year

Nice, like the body shape!
Not sure I'll get as far as bodywork in time for Sunday.

Those wheels certainly look a little different than when they left here last week !
I wondered what you were going to do with a set of wheel chair wheels..... and now I know.
and it also looks like you have 1 less chair in the meeting room at work now... brilliant !

LOL, yup, now you know what you were helping with!
The chair was a find at the local tip and cost me £2. I think I'm in for £150 so far in materials and consumables

looks great fun - I'd definitely gusset those uprights top & bottom though? For the amount of time & work it would take, they'd
share out a lot of the bending stresses on that point?

May well lower the seat in the chassis, but it's a case of time to get it finished right now. It's also been made with conversion to
petrol power in mind after the push kart race. Then it'll be on much smaller diam wheels.

I think they'll hold for the race, but may well add gussets to be safe.

Looking good! What wall thickness material is the front "axle" made from? If its only 1.6mm I'd be worried about it bending
Cheers

You can do it quickly. You can do it cheap. You can do it right. – Pick any two.

25x25x3mm box section, easily takes my 75kg bouncing in the middle.
