Hi all, not done this before so bear with me!
A few member from here (5 so far) are planning on attending Lydden on the 21st of march.
http://www.lyddenhill.co.uk/info.php
Lydden looks like a great sized track for our cars & they are fairly noise freindly. People from here say its a good track too!
So trying to drum up some interest, list your name below if interested.
We wont be booking untill early/mid march so we can check on weather forcasts.
LYDDEN HAVE OFFERED THE DAY TO US FOR £140ea, IF WE CAN GET 10 CARS.
So, anyone else interested?
Regards,
Mark B

Hotel Right By Lydden
resistance is futile, as they say!
only joking, leeds is a LONG drive.
regards
Mark

I am certainly interested but do you know what the noise limit is? At what revs is it tested?
(Sorry if they are numpty questions but i haven't been on a track day before)
I wouldn't worry too much about noise at Lydden - I think their published figure is 105dB, but unless things have radically changed from previous
seasons, no noise tests are actually carried out.
It's a very relaxed atmosphere there, sensible passing is also freely allowed anywhere on the circuit, which sounds dodgy but in reality works
well. I'm hoping to make it along if I can organise a trailer for the day.....
I'm already in.
ATB Dan.
after just a day i have 9 interested (including myself). Hopefully we can make this a good "locostbuilders" track day
Mark
Would love to but doubtful that I'll have the car back together by then seeing as it is currently reduced to its constituent parts. I'll
keep it in mind.
Tom
would make a good target date & test day though, wouldnt it?!
Lydden have replied to my request and can offer the day for £140ea if we get 10 people
Mark
Yup, deffo on for this. Will need to monitor weather as I am a bit of a girl in the wet!!
We could also use the venue as an opportunity for people who want a few billy runs. Nothing better than a run out on track to realise that BEC is the
way to go
As I will prove when I whoop Dan's ar$e!
Flame proof pants on!
Cheers
Martin
ETA: Dan, perhaps we can convince Cheffy to trailer his chassis there. He can use it as some sort of glorified scooter - just to see how it will go...
in a year or two!

Jud you forget I have access to the station armoury, You'll only over take once
As for dry weather, I'm not scared of a bit of rain are you.
Jud, is THIS you taking a Vx220 at Brunters?
And Cheffys chassis is in a more disassembled state than when I sold it too him.
ATB Dan.

im deffo a dry user only, so ill be waiting till closer to the time before i book
My only hope is a thunderstorm, when your 888's will be useless, as far as Bec honour, I think your quite safe. (I do see your trying to get
Mackie to come along as tail gunner
)
Did you mention beers in another thread
Yes Martin has gone backwards, but has assured me things are going in the right direction now.
My slight worry is getting the tow car Mot'd in time, otherwise the Pug will just have to struggle.
ATB Dan.
shameless bump
I did Lydden last year, and had a great day.
Looks like they've put the prices up though, it only cost £130 last year!!
I might come if weather permits.
Steve
Yes i gather that from what a few people have said. Shame really.
Still if we get 10 people we can get it for £140 and more than 10 have contacted me saying they are interested
BUMP
Mark
I'll deffo be there - not sure about the car though yet. Went to two last year as a spectator and it was superb. Don't worry about noise at Lydden!
nice one, i'll put your name on my list, just incase you have a car that is track ready once the time comes.
Mark
Its getting closer, looks like we're over the worst of the winter weather(touch wood, fingers, legs etc crossed!).
Still hoping to use Lydden as the first track outing of 2009, got lots to do/fit before then though:
sump, clutch springs, flatshifter, full service, lights all round, bullet cam system etc etc...
Shameless bump, anyone else interested in joining us?
I've got a trip abroad planned, but should be back on Mar 18th, so if the wet stuff stays away I should be ok......
BTTT!
3 weeks on saturday!
My car is currently off the road with a dead engine but its with mr b at AB performance so should be ready for this, better than ever
will circulate an email to all those who expressed an interest closer to the time
ETA Lydden hill is on 5th gear tonight (the ariel atom) veiw it on their website if you missed it

Hi there
where do i sign up!
I've been looking to do a track day this year so this could be it.
I started to think i was the only one in kent with a car.
with no local locost meet here i feel like an outcast.
fear not, you are no outcast!
i have taken your email address from your profile and added it to the list. At the moment there are 13 interested in coming, we need 10 people to get
it for £140 each, otherwise it will be £150 each.
regards
Mark
after further conversations with Lydden Hill, those who attend can all enter into the same group, which means we will be on, and off (for social!) the
track at the same time, rather than all being split up all day. Which is good news
How are you going to work this Mark - will it be turn up and pay on the day if the weather's ok?
no, im looking to book when the weathers looking confirmed, ie no sooner than a week before. Dont think they do "arrive & drive", do they?!

interesting, maybe i'll speak to lydden again. I bet she's getting fed up of me now. That said, to be fair she probably would prefer us to book in advance, makes sense as far as business goes, but not for us due to weather!

i assumed so, although you seem surprised so have you been before and done open pit late?
No - not been before. I guess I assumed that it was open pit based on others descriptions. No issues though still up for it - weather permitting.
Martin
At Lydden they run it as three 20min sessions per hour. That's quite a long stint, you'll be glad of your rest at the end of the session.
There's nothing to stop you coming back into the pits during your session to make any adjustment, and then going back out again - 20 mins gives
you enough time to do this.
good point. i did a couple of brands hatch open pit lane days last year when i had my audi tt & i didnt stay out for more than 15mins at a time to be honest
What's the story with tools and spares at track days? Is there somewhere secure to leave them whilst on the track?
Stu
well i will be trailering my car there, so the back of my car will be available for anyone wanting to lock anything away.
Ive always found it to be just a trust thing, everyone seemd to leave all their equipment in the paddock during the track time.
Thanks
When I get my towbar fitted I'll be doing the same.
stu
email gone out to those who expressed interest
under a week to go chaps, any late interest?
weather is looking OK on the 10day forcast. (post code for lydden is CT4)
Mark
Might come down with a mate and watch for a while....and maybe introduce myself if you guys are not too busy that is...
Might even drive down in the Indy....weather permitting of course
jon
if your going to bring your indy it would be criminal not to put it on the track
would love to go on track, but the car needs a proper geometry set up first and some new tyres wouldnt go amiss....
want to come down for a nosey anyway!!
jon
thats cool, i was only messing. come and introduce yourself if you do
How have people booked there places?
Have you used a code and have people sent in thier card details on the faxable form? Seems a little open to abuse!
ATB Dan.
should be there with john 09.00 ish dan have you got catering
do i need my garage clothes just incase.
Just a gas stove and a kettle, Feel free to bring more cooking things
(Bacon)
ATB Dan.

I'm now booked for Saturday - look forward to seeing all you guys there
I'm aiming for about 0830, they usually have the drivers briefing around 0845. It's always a great day out, but an early start, I just wish
the circuit was 75 miles nearer........
You and me both Geoff
. See you all there.
ATB Dan.
Hmmm 05:00 start - nice.
Dan - I will meet you in the layby at 05:15 - SNERK!

Martin
im going to be leaving about that time too
Ok Mart, If there's traffic on the motorway at that time I will not be happy
.
I wonder what time the Headington Mcd's opens?
ATB Dan.
Nice to meet a couple of you guys today. Sorry I wasn't able to join you on the track.

thanks for meeerrrk and dan the man for a leisurely ride round
and god for the glorious sun all day
was a good day, i left mid afternoon to get home at a sensible time. found the route of random engine cut out issue, a badly seated fuse (the main
battery 30a fuse). suddenly realised when i noticed the clock had reset back to 0:00!!
great day, see you all soon
Mark
Really enjoyable day, especially with so many familiar faces around, reckon we must do another one sometime this year.
My talent pot finally ran dry on the last session when I managed to throw it off the circuit twice, (once after the flag had dropped....
) The only
damage and wounds were to my pride, so no harm done.
Had a bit of drama on the way back on the M25 when the trailer shredded a tyre, the flailing tread then attacked the wiring and blew the lighting fuse
on the towcar. Looked a bit of a disaster at first, but we managed to sort it all in about half an hour, pretty scary on the side of a busy motorway
though.
Anyway, hope all you long distance guys made it back ok,
Geoff.
Well, that was a fecking long day, not helped by the fact that I had a sudden compulsion to go to maidstone not once but twice on the way home.
Many thanks for Mark for sorting it all out, and everyone else for their advice. Strange looking at the pics my front suspension seems all over the
shop but it's the rear i'm not happy with.
Thanks once again, Dan
A very enjoyable day with good company as usual, nice to meet martin(JUD) for the 1st time and whitestu again.
Weather was perfect for the day
Good to meet everybody. Long day - started at 04:40 and ended at 20:45. That said, I am still buzzing.
Had a great time, good weather, a little BEC/CEC banter and a very good little track!
Dan - I was behind you when you reached the A249/M20 roundabout. You got away and when I went down the M20 slip road you were nowhere to be seen - I
guess that was trip one into Maidstone. What I want to know is how did you manage a second go round, and how did you get on navigating the county town
of Kent with that MASSIVE trailer on the back!?
Stuart - impressive first outing in the Zetec - peddling well! Looking forward to the video footage.
We must arrange another - anybody up for Abingdon Airfield with Motorsport Events. Not been before, but it is central, open pit and a lot closer to
home
?
Cheers
Martin
Martin, I may be up for Abingdon, depending on date and costs.
cheers
Craig
me too if i dont manage to sell the car before then
keep us posted on it
BTW there were a couple of photographers there
http://www.photoboxgallery.com/oakleyphotosport
http://webphotouk.ifp3.com/root/webphotouk/iphoto/main2.cfm
It Sounds and looks like you had a good day,but its video's we want to see
I'm not to keen, as one of Stuarts has me squirming my way around the track for 15 min
ATB Dan.
ok guys,where are the video,s???????????????
Ok John, I'm just uploading one of my efforts at the moment, I'll post a link to it later.......
Here you go.....
Lydden video
[Edited on 24/3/09 by GeoffT]
Looks a nice little track, passing on both the left and right allowed by the looks of things
,you looked to be going well to catch and pass JUD
in the BEC,what engine have you got?,and did you get passed the elise with the big rear spoiler on,at the end of the video
yes you can pass on both sides and on corners, a bit scarey when your diving down the inside of a vauxhall senitor barge in a 7!!!
good little track, i'd certainly go again. Well suited to a BEC in my opinion, i was in the intermediate group and was keeping some very capable
cars honest (or at least i think i was!)
nice videos peeps, yup the 7,s were certainly showing some of the other cars the way home

To be fair to Jud, he was two up, and (I think) shod on road tyres (as was Dan), so it wasn't a like for like comparison. I don't think
I'll be giving either of them too much trouble when they're shod on 888's or similar. Engine is a k-series, which for once lasted the
whole day.....
You are too kind Geoff
Yes it is true, I had 30 stone of Pure English Beef on board at the time!
Need to investigate some decent tyres - just about able to justify replacing them based on the current wear!
Cheers
Martin
R888s, they are great
Jud, have you booked yourself on the the Abingdon day on the 24th April, or are you going to leave it for anther month?
cheers
Craig

I'm looking at doing an Abingdon event in July, Give everyone a bit of time to get sorted.
I'll start another thread later.
ATB Dan.
I will be doing something before July. Haven't made up my mind yet and need to check with family commitments.
Also want some new tyres first, so got to factor in that cost.
Likely to be doing one of the Motorsport Events days - either Abingdon, Colerne or Hullavington in the next 4-6 weeks.
Cheers
Martin
