Hi guys..

With the locost car club now defunct, I was thinking that we should get a club stand together for the major shows.

I appreciate alot of you will be on the MK, MAC stand etc, but with the "book" car as we know it now obsolete, we need something to let people know we are still here!

Big thanks to JGG for letting Locosters tag along with the luego crowd, but I think we are missing an opportunity for the forum itself, and the locostbuilders as a community!

Good idea, the locost club hasn't been around for a few years yet still appears to have stands set out for the locost club, has something changed?

Only down side is that it may have to be a large pitch as some mk owners etc would prefer to go on a locostbuilders stand instead of the manufactures one so could get over run!!

Nice idea though, not sure what would be involved though.

I was told that the Locost car club was basically using the last off the sub money they had to transport the marquee to shows.

Shaun, I think this a great idea in principle but we would need to overcome a few issues.

1. The need to ensure we support our respective car clubs / manufacturers at the same time.

2. We maintain the individuality of our builds / makes

If we ensure the "mantra" or purpose of the locost club display was to attract more builders and promote the locost manufacturers at the same time as promote the locostbuilders forum as a support club then I'm sure everyone would be keen to buy-in.

That just my point, the MK, DAX, MAC1 etc etc all have club stands, but the Locost one is afaik finished at the end of this current season.

Im not saying you are on the forum so you MUST be on the locost builders stand, not your respective builders stand.

Let me put it like this - my first show was stoneleigh, i was hugely dissapointed by this show simply for the reason that I felt like the "locost" presence was simply non existent. i walk past the LCC stand and there was 3 cars with nobody around. At the end of the day i felt like I would have rather gone in my fiesta as a spectator.

Newark was totally different as JGG let me join the Luego stand and then we all moved onto the LCC stand halfway through the day.

If I felt like this, Im sure some people are not going to the shows because of the exact same thing. The idea of it is a place for locosters to display their cars, whether they be MK, book cars, Luegos etc and for people on the LCB to get to know eachother face to face! If you wanted to display your car on the manufacturers stand, you still have the LCB stand to walk over to and use as a forum meeting place!

Thanks for the positive responces, I'll wait and see what the rest of the forum thinks then contact fozz and chris to see if I can start thinking about doing it for next years show season!

I think this is a top idea.!
I should be on the road for next years events, so will want somewhere to go at these shows where I feel at home.
LCB is more than just about a specific car design. To me, it's more about a frame of mind - a certain type of person.
Where else do you have a community where it's simply about the pleasure of building your own car. Whether that be a locost, a kit, a classic restoration, or some genius scratch build one off - it's simply the best place on the net for all of this.

Dogwood when I walked past it there were 3 cars on there, maybe more turned up after, but it still doesn't detract from the fact that the stand will not be there when the money runs out and "locosts" will have nowhere to park up.

Maybe we could copy the Pistonheads model for attending shows - someone takes on the job of organising a visit to a show (not always the same person). Once arranged, interested folk declare their wish to attend, the organiser gets the relevant details to the attendees, and one of the PH gang turns up with a couple of big signs to put in front of the cars.

The important thing is that one person doesn't get lumbered with having to organise every event - the duty is shared. In the PH East Anglia branch they are lucky to have two people who are more than happy to organise events, but I know that this isn't always the way things work!

This is very similar to the way jollygreengiant organises the Luego stand at shows - he organises a patch, tells people the arrangements, and sticks up a sign at the show - end of duties.

I think it's a great idea as not all builders would want to be on the manufacturers site / stand, I for one would rather be on a LCB stand as this is where I got most of my help from and if it wasn’t for LCB I would not finished my car in time.

But it does depend if it is just for ‘Locosts’ or for ‘LCB’s’ and think that the Pistonheads way of organising meets / stands could be a good way to go

Spot on david - iirc most of the shows are free to display a club stand so there is no cost burden.

Basically one person to organise the stand and inform of details then it would be down to the forum to organise bbq's, tents etc etc.

Also david, PH seem to attend every motoring event under the sun, due to the hit car fraternity only have a handful of major shows to attend hopefully it would not be a vast amount of work to organise?

Im thinking it would bring alot more new people to shows who are on the forum, and people to the forum who already go to the shows.

Guys.....a brilliant idea.......

BUT........

Although the Locost Car Club .... isn't active in as such there are no membership cards/newsletters etc. it is still very much active in the respect of show 'stands/area'....

I have it on good authority that this is guaranteed for at least the next 10 years.

I am sure that in this respect, the Locost bit of the title stands for Low-Cost, and not the type of chassis/car you have.

So that throws the whole thing open to any marque.

It would be great to keep all of the cars together, rather than create 'splinter' groups, and of course in true Lo(w)cost fashion, keep the costs down too. (Some shows do charge a fee).

Ok its a non starter then lol

Its a pity really, because although this forum isn't a club, I think its a missed opportunity to get all the forum members together for good times on our own display (with or without there cars on the stand), rather than one thats there just for the sake of it.

There has been alot of talk on other forums about the locostbuilders dying a slow death, and although we don't need a display to prove that is not true, it can only help bring in new blood to what some people may thing is a dying breed/lost cause!
