Silverstone Trackday
scutter - 8/1/10 at 09:07 PM

Ok folks, I need a target to get my winter mods done by.

Does anyone fancy a Silverstone Trackday full GP circuit on friday 19th March?

Linky

Open pit lane and 105Db noise limit, currently spaces and £159 costs.

ATB Dan.

GeoffT - 8/1/10 at 09:26 PM

I'm very tempted by that. Did the Southern circuit last year and it was great fun, fast but fairly safe, nothing too much to hit.

Be nice to get a bit of a group of us together as in previous jollies, maybe some more will show interest...

ReMan - 8/1/10 at 10:04 PM

Very interested, only driven he short circuit before......

scutter - 8/1/10 at 10:15 PM

I've done the southern circuit on an experiance day, fancy the real deal.
I'll let people read the post for a week to see what numbers were looking at before approaching the organisers for a discount, see what we could do.

ATB Dan.

whitestu - 8/1/10 at 10:51 PM

I'm up for it if I can get the day off!

Stu

Johneturbo - 9/1/10 at 12:02 PM

Very tempted,i've done the national circuit
so would be good to stretch the legs a bit

ETA would this be the new silverstone layout!?

Ok its the original layout which means bridge

scutter - 9/1/10 at 12:04 PM

Out of curiosity, How many Locosts could you get in a pit garage?

Might be worth factoring into the price.

ATB Dan.

PAUL FISHER - 9/1/10 at 02:23 PM

Its a very cheap day at £159 for the full GP circuit, the pit garages are quite large at Silverstone, you could get 4 s7vens in one at a squeeze
I would have gone on it but fridays are not good for me with work, and I am already booked on Cadwell on the monday of that week.

GeoffT - 10/1/10 at 02:38 PM

The general opinion seems to be that this is great value for the full GP circuit. With that in mind I reckon the places could sell out pretty quickly, so it may be advisable to make a decision and get it booked fairly soon?

Think I might book myself on next week regardless - it may be the only opportunity I'll ever get to afford the 'real deal'.....

scutter - 10/1/10 at 03:04 PM

Good point Geoff, I'll speak to the boss about moving some money about.

scutter - 10/1/10 at 03:17 PM

Boss spoken to and event booked, come on you lot, I need some faster cars to show me the lines.

ATB Dan.

GeoffT - 10/1/10 at 03:43 PM

Booked..

scutter - 10/1/10 at 03:44 PM

Outstanding, you'll have to show me how to get the best from my new R888's

ATB Dan.

GeoffT - 10/1/10 at 04:19 PM

You'll be surprised by the amount of extra grip you've got with 888's. You'll feel a lot more confident about giving it some attack through the twisty bits, just make sure you get a bit of warmth into them first.

Just a case of fingers crossed on the weather now I suppose, I've been real lucky with March bookings in the past.

Johneturbo - 11/1/10 at 02:04 PM

Before i book this, does anyone know what sort of top end speed we'd be getting? as i've just changed to a 3.62 lsd....
think my top end is only about 110/115mph

PAUL FISHER - 11/1/10 at 03:37 PM

The GP circuit is not the best circuit for a BEC,especially one with only 110 to 115mph top speed, its a wide very fast circuit, but it is a circuit everyone should drive at least once, its a great experience
Hanger straight will be your main problem with a bec,if your fast coming out of Becketts and get a good run through Chapel you will be doing over 90mph as you just get onto Hanger,so you may well be on the rev limiter only a third of the way down the straight,as I was, just make sure you watch your mirrors for the Porsche GT3's etc going pass you as a well driven one will get to over 150mph down there.

[Edited on 19/05/04 by PAUL FISHER]

Johneturbo - 11/1/10 at 03:54 PM

Ok i thought so, i really need to check my top end to be sure, obviously on a private road.

I did Abingdon last year but i did have a 3.38 then and was fine on the back straight.

I agree with you Paul, i really want to experience the full GP circuit and of course bridge

scutter - 12/1/10 at 11:58 AM

I must get back to the workshop!!!!!!

JonnyS - 12/1/10 at 01:20 PM

I'll probably be booking this after 24th Jan as I want to make sure Mallory goes ok first . Some friends over at the FCCUK (Fiat Coupes) will be going too.

scutter - 14/1/10 at 07:17 PM

Ok, Garage booked. really looking forward to this now, need to book some leave to finish the car now.
ATB Dan.

whitestu - 18/1/10 at 09:14 PM

Awaiting confirmation of day off and will then book, so should be done tomorrow!

Stu

whitestu - 19/1/10 at 10:05 AM

Day approved and booked on, subject to confirmation from trackdays.co.uk.

Right, who's booking the weather? I don't want a repeat of Abingdon!

What's the story with the garage Dan?

Stu

[Edited on 19/1/10 by whitestu]

scutter - 19/1/10 at 02:35 PM

I can confirm the garage is booked, it'll have my name on the rear access.

As for users it seems fair enough to assume it could take 4 cars, so the other 3 that have confirmed they spaces are more than welcome to use it.

Myself
GoeffT
Hicost
Whitestu

If there is a need for anyone elses car to use it for repairs i'm sure we can shuffle about, it'll also be there for semi-secure storage.

Really need to get the car sorted no, I've binned the dash upgrade for this year to ensure it ready, just new wings and stays, rear axle cx with disc conversion and a bit of paint

ATB Dan.

whitestu - 19/1/10 at 04:57 PM

Just got my confirmation through so all set now!

Dan, do I need to chip in for the garage?

Cheers

Stu

ps You buying R888s isn't fair.

I gotta keep up with you some how Stu, I don't think there is any need to chip in, was only £25, and i owe Hicost for luch at Mllory last time out.

ATB Dan.

whitestu - 19/1/10 at 08:52 PM

OK, Thanks - I'll bring some food or something then!

GeoffT - 14/3/10 at 11:38 PM

Hmm.......not liking the look of the current weather forecast for the end of the week - let's hope it improves before Friday..

scutter - 15/3/10 at 11:52 AM

I hope so, that garage is looking better all the time.

scutter - 18/3/10 at 08:45 AM

Weather report looking better at the moment for tomorrow, I'm assuming were all still coming.

ATB Dan.

GeoffT - 18/3/10 at 09:54 AM

Yep, I should know by now not to take too much notice of 5-day forecasts.....!

My pal with the trailer is bringing his own car along, so I'm driving the 7 there, let's hope nothing important falls off on the way.

Same pal was at Silverstone as a marshall a week or two ago, reckoned parts of the circuit looked like the M25 under construction at the time, presumably they've got it all sorted. Should mean there'll be a nice new surface on the new bits, I'm sure we'll rub the shine off it....

Do you know your garage number Dan? Just might make it easier to find you when we arrive....

[Edited on 18/3/10 by GeoffT]

whitestu - 18/3/10 at 02:08 PM

Breathed a sigh of relief when I saw the weather forecast this morning, after the soaking I got at Abingdon!

My prop is soted now so should have no nasty knocking noises this time.

I'm driving as well, so like Geoff hoping nothing falls off on the way!

Stu

scutter - 18/3/10 at 04:42 PM

I'm driving up, it's only 40 miles. Cheffy is bringing the kit up for me.

The Garage has my name above it, don't know the number, Daniel Poyser is what your looking for.

ATB Dan.

karlak - 18/3/10 at 07:30 PM

Have a good day guys - Hope the weather holds

If work brings me over that way, I may drop in to take a look

JonnyS - 18/3/10 at 07:32 PM

Have a good day. Say hello to my mate in the green Fiat Coupe. The engine isn't standard

scutter - 18/3/10 at 08:06 PM

I'll be there from 0700, will have a flask of coffee ready. I'll U2U the 3 that i know are going my mob number.

ATB Dan.

GeoffT - 18/3/10 at 09:00 PM

I like to enjoy every last minute in the pit, so will be leaving Windsor by 06.30 to arrive by 8.00. If it all goes horribly wrong I'll go for the later (0930) sign on and briefing...

scutter - 19/3/10 at 08:02 PM

Many thanks to everyone who turned up today, was an enjoyable if slippery day

I managed 6 miles home before my clutch cable snapped!!!!! then the AA stung me £100 to upgrade my account to get me home.

I'll post some vids up as soon as I can.

ATB Dan.

Cheffy - 19/3/10 at 08:11 PM

Evening Chaps,

Nice to meet up with everyone today. Great to put faces to names on the site.

Well I had an excellent day. But then I was just there as a passenger scrabbing rides! Massive thanks to James/Hicost, Whitestu and of course Daniel the Manual/Scutter for the rides (for myself, the missus and my mate Rich!) around the new Silverstone.

GeoffT - did you get back okay?

We (I was following Dan back in case his engine cut out again) got about 6 miles from Silverstone before his clutch cable snapped. Ended up getting his car taken home on the back of a breakdown truck!

Anyway, Anita and I hope to be there in our own cars before too long. (All right Dan I can hear you from here - stop laughing - I will get them finished eventually!)

Cheers and thanks again,

Martin/Cheffy

Edited to say: Was writing this as Scutter posted message above!

Bad luck Dan! I got back with no problems other than that the fast lane of the M1 in the rain isn't much fun!

It was nice to put some faces to names! I'll post some videos over the weekend.

cheers

....yes thanks, driven at a more sympathetic pace the 'oily' problem seemed to pretty much disappear, but I've obviously got some issue that need sorting before the next track outing. Spending half the day mopping up puddles of the slippery black stuff was starting to become a bit tiresome.....! The underside of the car had a good wash on the way home though....

Good to meet up with you all today, bad luck for Dan, must have worked out an expensive day for you.

Maybe get some more in later this year?

ATB, Geoff.

Is it a crossflow geoff? Mine used to blow loads out of the breather on trackdays - like half a pint in 5 laps.

whitestu - 21/3/10 at 02:40 PM

One of my vids is here: YouTube

Quite pleased with the GoPro camera. There's another one processing on youtube as well. I'll do some more when I get a chance.

.....was once, but has been a k-series for the last few years.

Pulled the cam cover off today to find that the oil separator gauze is missing from behind the breather outlet. Would be nice to think that's the cause, but it seems to be breathing fairly heavily from the crankcase. My guess is that it has succumbed to the 1.8k habit of breaking the piston ring lands when given a thorough thrashing.....

Guess I'll have to pull the motor out before the next track outing - I've got a spare 1.6k under the bench, these don't seem to break pistons like the 1.8 so I might give that a try, a lot more free revving too by all accounts. Only other option is a set of forged pistons, but at £500 a throw that ain't gonna happen.....
