Locost Track Day
I'm hoping we can make this a
good day for everyone for the best price. Please don’t hesitate to
email me with any advice or problems, I’m not an event organiser! Just
want to play in my car!
OK, the facts. I have been throwing these around locost builders so
you may already know most but just to make it all clear.
Date - 9th July 2010
Venue - North Weald Airfield - located just off Junct. 7 of the M11.
Times - 9am - 4pm.
The airfield is open before this time. There will be a security
guard at the gate but if you’re in a kit they will just open the gate.
If you are not directed automatically then just ask for the activity day. We
will be the only 'event' on the airfield. We will be stopping for an
hour for lunch, probably around 11:30am so as to get to the pub before
the lunchtime rush, so that we are only away from the track for a short
time.
The car park at the pub is fairly secure, the airfield is always
'manned' if you want to leave anything there (non road legal kits, it
is a very short drive to the pub) but obviously at your own risk. You
don’t have to leave to go to the pub if you don’t want to. Last time I
went the pub food was really good, was less than £10 for a nice burger
and a drink (soft drink obviously! no 12 pint sessions!).
After the day we may do a little drive to another pub but we can sort that
out later, any ideas let me know.
There will hopefully be 25 cars. It will be mainly kits but there is a
lot of interest from members of LCB that have all sorts of stuff, but
mainly kits. Any other cars will be sports cars (tar’s etc). Non road
legal cars are welcome. There is plenty of space for trailers, this
area is accessible at all times throughout the day to use and
tools/fuel can be left there as well. Just to stress one point, the
company its being booked through do not offer any cover and it is you
who is solely responsible for your car and safety throughout the day
and all cars should be 'track worthy'.
Cost -
If we get 25 cars then it will be £38 per car. For this we
get two 'instructors', they will organise the day and marshall the
circuit. They will be happy to give advice but don’t expect a full day
of much 1 to 1 tuition. We will be driving from 9am- 4pm, with an hour for
lunch. In this time we can do a few things including the high
speed bend, have 2 circuits running where you can drive to either one,
or have the full sprint circuit open. I'd suggest doing all three
things, with a high speed bend in the morning for and hour or so, then
circuits, then lunch, then more circuits, then finish off with a couple
of runs on the sprint circuit, this way I think you can get the most
driving out of the day.
If anyone has done a car limits activity day then it will be the same.
Obviously if we don’t get 25 cars we can still hire the airfield but
the price per car will go up, however, I’m very confident we can get
25 cars, and if we don’t then its more driving time, so no big deal if
we only get 22/23 cars as its only a couple of quid more.
My plan is to get 25 people confirmed, then we will sort out payment.
For this we have several options,
1- Transfer direct into one single bank account
2- Pay pal transfers ( we would have to add on pay pal costs though)
3.- Cheques, old school but they work.
4.- Myself or Ed may be at Newark so could sort something out for then?
I’m happy to leave that option open to each person individually, I
have asked about paying the company individually but it’s not an
option apparently, although I’m working on it as it would be a bit
easier. If anyone has any other thoughts please let me know.
So, what's next...
If you want to confirm and have every intention of paying and
attending then please
email me, stating how you would like to pay and the make/model of
your car. For the time being, we wont take any money until we have 25
people confirmed. we have to pay 28 days before, so I will be asking
for full payment before the end of the month. If this is a problem
please let me know.
Finally, whilst it will be mainly LCB members, LCB is in no way legally
responsible etc.
Sorry for the read, but trying to put everything I know down. Any
questions please feel free to email me or Ed, or u2u on locost
builders. Hopefully we can get ourselves a nice cheap day! Any
comments, advice or
tips are more than welcome!
Cheers! Ant and Ed.

Ok as we are full now. I am sure there are some people who still want to come but have missed out, (not checked their emails for last 48hours).
So we are going to have a list of reserves:
First come first served on the reserves, please email eddie@skyships.co.uk or U2U me here to get on it.
Thanks
Ed
with regards to reserves, i may be able to run another day on the thursday (8th) but this isnt confirmed,
also, i am able to offer a ford mondeo to hire, 2000 vintage, 1.8 liters of fury! also it has a spoiler so its well quick.
the race is on to get mine finished. Just the kick up the arse I need
or its the zs 180
Ive just picked up a 20 L jerry can for fuel.
Just a quick question on the circuit layout, is it gonna be a high speed open layout, or nice and twisty. I'll be in the Mini so if it'a a fast open layout it might not really suit, I'll just end up being a mobile chicane!
They normally have a high speed bend, then 2 circuits which are small and twisty so dont worry!
it's also only one car moving on each circuit at any one time.

yep.
I'm afraid I need to unconfirm then and let one of the reserves step in, dont fancy sitting and watching for long periods, prefer to run out of petrol.
Hi' do you have a list of those confirmed as I have not received a conformation email or message but put my name down on a email to you. (just wanna be on the list)
Sorry, yes, remove me too, I thought it was an open pit lane event.
all done jasper, anyone else that needs some conformation about the day please check the videos on humbugs thread
links
there are now 2 spaces avaliable for anyone interested,
email me at ant.collier@gmail.com for more info.

Hi Ant
Can you be a bit more specific about the days setup. I have not read anything that tells us how the day works. I noticed lots of cones on the video
and going around in circles etc. Is this the format or is there a full circuit?
Thanks in advance.
James
Hi james,
Ok its quite hard to put it across. this is how car limits describe the day
click me
i did it a couple of weeks ago. after arival and sign on/ brief, we go to an area of the airfield where everyone quess up and take it in turns to have
a go on this high speed turn onto the main runway without crossing the drain in the middle, you are measured with a speed gun for your entry speed and
then you can try and go faster the next time
heres a vidyoutube
then after about an hour 2 circuits are set up in differant parts of the airfield. you can drive between the two at your own will on the ring road
bit. one circuit is big and open, the other small and technical
video of an elise doing the small circuit
then after an hour we stop for lunch (around 11 so the pub is quite so we are in and out quickly) then more time on the two circuits, then if we want
we can do the full size sprint circuit a couple of times, all the circuits are timed every time you do them so you get to have a bit of banter with
everyone! and try and get better times!
sprint course
hope that clears it up for anyone. its not a circuit day,
the final cost is £38.00 per car, passengers/additional drivers welcome.
Ant
Just found this thread now, I had subscribed to last one so nearly missed it.
Do you have a list of confirmed entries I contacted you a while ago but not heard since and want to make sure I am on the list.
Cheers
RD
Eddie & Ant I emailed you this too JIC
I only just came across your post about the Locost day at North Weald (my fault for not checking the forum more often!)
I was wondering if there are any spaces left or if not could you put me on the reserves list?
I only live around the corner from the Airfield and have done a couple of Car Limit events there before - they're great fun. As I'm so
close I can be very flexible if you have any last minute drop outs!
Failing that I might just pop up and say hi anyway!
[Edited on 20/5/10 by mattg8000]
I am second reserve so if anyone does drop out they wont loose there money..
cheers Gavin
We are now out of reserves, so if anyone would like to be put on the reserve list, Give me a U2U!
What's up Eddie..
You worried you not going to have your car finished in time!!
