Cadwell Sr2 Pics and Video
chris mason - 7/7/10 at 09:01 PM

Had a good day at Cadwell today, Highlighted a few issues with the springs which i think the pictures show quite well, but basically it ended with the dampers bottoming out on several occasions, bringing an early end to the day.

For the 1st outing the car performed pretty well all things considering, and it appears the best lap time was 1:47 not that i was timing or anything

Really impressed with how the car handles and the 1.6 mazda lump pulls pretty well for 110bhp, top speed suffered due to the lack of power, according to the data logger i only managed to break 100mph once recording a speed of 102mph, rest of the time it appears to be struggling once 99mph is hit.

All the speeds are logged from the gps so i take them to pretty accurate.

Looking forward to the next outing now at Oulton Park on the 4th of August (4 weeks today)

Good to meet plenty of Locostbuilders and see a nice variation of car and engines on track.

Here's a couple of pictures taken by the on track photographer, and the video should up online shortly.
Fell free to add any further pics of the car if you managed to take any

looks nice? what was wrong with the springs/shocks? thought they supplied them designed for the car?

Looks well Chris - if a little softly sprung.

What lb springs are you running?

Had you had the car corner weighted and geometry set-up?

Car looks fantastic mate!

I'm sure it'll be a piece of pee to sort the spring/damper - I suppose it being leathered round the track by someone that can drive and it running a decent set of slicks will add to it needing a bit of fine tuning in the spring/damper area...

Yeah the spring were supplied with the car.
The springs were as supplied by Road Runner Racing for a road set up, the road set up uses a different mounting position for the damper, this runs them more upright and also gives you more wheel travel per damper stroke.

When you adpot the track settings for the car, it lowers the car by approx 1" and also decreases the damper/wheel stroke.

I was aware that the springs may be too soft for my intended use, but as Road Runner Kindly offered to supply me with these to try or any other poundage i'd like, i opted to give them a go, unfortunately they are too soft for my intended use. So Road Runner are supplying me some more to try.

As this is the 1st track car out there, it is a bit of trial and error with set up, fortunate for me Road Runner are funding the development and have supplied me with the kit at great price

Roll on Oulton to give the next set up a run

The effective spring rates at the moment are working out at around 240lbs give or take a bit, a big swing is required so next i'll be trying an effective spring rate of approx 350lbs all round

Video now uploaded CLICK ME

It appears to be laps of a traffic filled track, but it wasn't that bad, the Caterham that i let past a lap or so in, is the one i end up hunting down and passing at the end, a few other caterhams pop up along the way.
The best lap of the 15 i did, starts around 7:43 i hit some traffic, but it doesn't slow me down too much

For some reason You tube seem to have ruined the quality and added a gremlin in the right speaker, so if you want to enjoy the sound i'd turn down your right speaker and turn up the left one

Chris

Sadly, that's the only pic I have of the car Chris..

Vid looks good. For a car so fresh out of the box it goes very well. A wee bit more power obviously wouldn't go amiss, to make overtaking a bit less of a strain...

Keep up the good work.
