Newark Show - Poor on Sunday!
Rob Lane - 21/6/04 at 07:44 AM

Made the journey in the tintop with son and Dean C.

Most dissapointed to find many stalls packing up at 12 noon!!

OK, so weather was damp for an hour or so but once one stall packed up many followed suit. By 1-30pm half had packed away and left!

People were still entering the show and paying to see only half the S/H stands!

Really poor on part of stalls. We have done shows and have stayed to the end, many people coming back to buy the stuff before they left for home, so they didn't have to carry it about all day.

I expected to do same for some tools but the stalls had left when I went back around 2pm!!

Last year I went on the Saturday and it was quieter than the Sunday, so that can't be their excuse!

I would complain to the organisers and ask for your money back.

I'm gonna have a moan about the lack of catering Saturday night.

Rob

Newark show this year, was very poor
we had a good turn out of locosts, but that was it
saturday was wet and dissapointing
sunday weather was better (ish)

The stands this year were pathetic !!, out of my planned shopping list I managed a big zero !!!
There was no where decent to eat except dodgy burgers, the bars on saturday closed at 1600 and reopened at 1900

The main hall's entertainment for the evening was not bad, but considering the amount of people in the hall there was only 3 barstaff

but I did pick up a shortened xflow sump and modified pickup for £12 (yes twelve quid) so that made my day

and the drive home was a nightmare as well. very wet and 5 hours

Jasper can I claim my money back ?

Steve - don't remember you giving me any

Rob Lane - 21/6/04 at 11:08 AM

Catering was very dodgy. I succumbed finally to the burger van near main hall as being best of bunch.

Even then, burger lukewarm and repeated on me till 7pm at night!

I picked up two inline thermostats for £3 each. Made of brass with a small spigot pipe on side and inlet and outlet at 45mmm wide. No idea which car they are meant to fit, probably 50's car but one will do me nicely.

I saw a nice S/Steel 5 inch exhaust but at £170 a bit steep!

Otherwise I was most disappointed.

Once you have a car built then the manufacturers stands are of passing interest only.

All a bit crap - except for this fine display Rescued attachment DSCN0827.JPG

i had a great time, though it would've been good if id managed to meet more people. but i got my indicators, a universal joint and a few other bits and bobs, plus got a fun ride down, so all good really. Oh yeah, and a look at the hicost device!

you're right though, the manufacturer stands were less interesting than the bits and bobs stands.

anyone see that fella who had small motorised thingies on a rope, tearing round a pole?! crazy devices, doing about 50mph on 1.5inch wheels! i felt dizzy as i walked off...

I think most people can see that the shows have been going downhill for a while, Newark used to advertise as a combined Kit car show/autojumble and cosequently got a lot more jumblers, anyone who attends the Newark autojumbles will know they are massive.

I think the problem is one of dilution, too many shows.

Before Donnington was established, Stoneleigh and Newark were much bigger, I don't really like Donnington, I don't like the way they charge kit car drivers to get in, and the catering is hugely expensive.

Cheers

Chris

2 things I notice from those...

1, Hicost managed to find a gazebo on Sunday and

2, Chris is demonstrating to somebody the length of his knob.

Mk-Ninja - 21/6/04 at 06:08 PM

And 3 where were you

Metal Hippy - 21/6/04 at 06:12 PM

I couldn't face going again when shitty weather was promised again.

I went there for inspiration for my mean machine monster thing and found it lacking on Saturday.

Was good meeting a couple of folks I hadn't met before though.

Peteff - 21/6/04 at 06:23 PM

I walked over to the main hall, saw Chris and Martin, and when I came back Hicost and passenger were just leaving, was that you behind him Jasper? I saw madbutcher and he really is Martins butcher.

Actually it went as well as could be expected, mostly appologies from the commitee regarding what's come to be known as Locostmembershipgate. i.e a complete breakdown in the membership database.

it's being sorted.

The commitee were re-elected, everyone else realised what hard work it is!

Some points re: the new trackday organisation, and the club website, whip round, the end.

Cheers

Chris

You mean the big damp workshop with electrics provided by an extension lead from another building?

Yeah, great.
