If you have to go for IVA I would suggest magnet on propshaft & sensor on either gearbox or diff wherever easiest to mount as this will give perfect readings on their rolling road. If you don't need IVA then I would suggest magnet on driveshaft (assuming independant rear end) as it's easier to mount, will work perfectly on the road but can give probs reading on their rolling roads as they don't lock rollers together. If you have the barrel type plastic sensor then make sure the magnet is going to run along one of the lines cast into the plastic towards each end of the barrel section - it must NOT run down the length of the barrel & pass across both lines as this will give you some very strange readings!!

i read somewhere that if mount the sensor to the front wheel(like caterham does) theres no way of testing it so the iva have to pass it, is that true?

Can I tap into the prop or will it put it out of balance?

My speed sensor was on the prop but the speed readout fluctuated wildly, as did the gear indicator.

I changed to the front wheel (made a simple bracket for the sensor) and it now reads perfect every time.
