Regular East Anglia meets?
David Jenkins - 17/8/05 at 07:51 PM

Just been looking through the latest Locost Car Club newsletter (Aug 2005) and noticed that someone called Bruce Keeling is trying to set up a regular monthly meeting at the Black Horse, Stratford St Mary. Second Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm.

Seems like a fine idea, but trouble is, there are no contact details! Are you on this group, Bruce? Or does anyone else know him? Or should a group of us just turn up at the next one? I believe that the next one works out as 13th Sept.

cheers,
David

A regular meet sounds like a mighty fine idea but can we make it on another day as I play footie on Tuesdays and my beer gut needs the exercise to keep it down to a reasonable size!

Didn't have a clue where Stratford St Mary was so i just Autoroute expressed it and at 7.2 miles and a cost of £0.80, I'm sure I can make!

Danozeman - 18/8/05 at 09:35 PM

Doug mate. Is your car all done? Did u run it at eastcoast?

Eye airfield is a good bet I didnt say that though.

David Jenkins - 3/9/05 at 06:19 PM

bttt

Just sounding out everyone - is 13th Sept an option for folk? I might trundle down there to see if anyone else turns up...

David

Mike McKinstry - 4/9/05 at 09:18 AM

David,if weather is ok i wouldnt mind trip out before tax runs out end sept.-however dont get home(Bury St Ed) from work (Norwich)until 7 so dont know what time you were thinkin,Mike.

David Jenkins - 4/9/05 at 02:15 PM

Bit open-ended at the moment - Chris has just (today!) given me Bruce Keeling's phone number so I'll give him a call over the next few days.
I'll post the outcome ASAP.

David Jenkins - 9/9/05 at 07:15 AM

Not yet - I'll try again tonight.

David

David Jenkins - 9/9/05 at 07:05 PM

OK, I've spoken to Bruce - he asked for the notice to be posted ages ago, and had no response in the past. He's not a computer-user, so wasn't aware of this forum. He also works shifts, so he hadn't chased up the issue to date.

Anyway, I said that I'd sound out people to see if anyone's interested in meeting up, with the aim of getting there next Tuesday. I'll aim to get there in my Locost (if wet, in the tin-top), so who else is interested? The East Anglians haven't met for a long while, so a convivial glass of pop would be good.

To save you scrolling back up the page, it's at:

The Black Horse
Stratford St Mary
CO7 6JS

This village is just off the A12, less than a mile North of the Essex/Suffolk border. It's a largish pub with a big car park. (Use the postcode in your favourite web map site to find out where it is!)

cheers,
David

Mike McKinstry - 9/9/05 at 08:07 PM

Very interested, so long as weather is good -would someone contact ferg etc, mike.

David Jenkins - 11/9/05 at 07:39 PM

BTTT

So, the weather forecast looks good - how about a show of hands for those likely to turn up?
It looks like Bruce, Mike & me so far!

David

Danozeman - 11/9/05 at 08:10 PM

It is the 13th! In other words, tomorrow (relative to the day of posting, that is... )

David

Ferg - 12/9/05 at 05:09 PM

I'll try to get there David. I'll be in the Locost Libra........

Mike McKinstry - 12/9/05 at 07:44 PM

Guys,I will most likely not be there tuesday eve due to a combination of work and unfortunately availability of fuel-had to queue up for 30mins at Thetford for fuel tonight at 5pm-need fuel for MK before heading off to colchester-
probably a bit too far in present circumstances!
Maybe next time,
Mike

David Jenkins - 12/9/05 at 08:59 PM

Mike,

Sorry to hear that - I'm starting to get very annoyed with this petrol nonsense!

BTW - I just went out to fill up my wife's car (no, not panic buying! Her car was down to a quarter-tankful) and mine was the only car in our local station - there had been queues earlier, but they'd all gone by 8-ish.

See you next time...

David

907 - 13/9/05 at 04:27 PM

Sorry.

Looks like I won't make it tonight chaps.

No petrol in Sudbury this afternoon.

I have 1/3 of a tank, but I need that for work.

Have a pint for me, those of you that make it.

Ferg - 13/9/05 at 04:38 PM

Dropping like flies, is anyone still going, and will I recognize anyone there?? If I look lost with my 6' son, Tom come and say hello.

jonno - 13/9/05 at 07:25 PM

Sorry, wanted to get home. Had a 5:30 start to get to Snetterton (what a great track ), finished at 5. Great day was had by all
Will make the next one if weather is fine thou.

David Jenkins - 13/9/05 at 07:56 PM

OK - well I made it, and Ferg and his son Tom... this petrol business is REALLY starting to annoy me!

Never mind - it wasn't a total waste of time, as we had an opportunity to spy out the pub. It's a fine, classic scruffy country pub with a decent sized car park. If we choose the right day for the next one we may even have something extra to look at apart from each other!

Tonight (2nd Tuesday of each month) it was a Triumph bike owners' evening, which was entertaining. Apparently on the 1st Wednesday of each month the local hot-rod club meets...

Anyway, shame people couldn't make it, but maybe next time...

David

P.S. Chris - nothing to report for the Locost Club Newsletter

P.P.S. Every petrol station I passed on the way home at 08:30 was open and very few cars on the forecourts.

Mike McKinstry - 13/9/05 at 08:01 PM

It wasnt you passed me in saab with locost on back was it(or did you have dutton at track).
Also noticed yello mini on car trailer (on back of A4 Avant)sitting in petrol queue heading out of norwich presumably to give you some competition?!

David need another meet soon as tax runs out end of sept!

In N.Ireland next few days-speak when back
Cheers Mike

Mike McKinstry - 13/9/05 at 08:04 PM

Sorry David, you pipped me to the "post"-above was for Jonno,Regards Mike

jonno - 13/9/05 at 08:49 PM

Dutton was on track ,but the mini & locost (towed by a 900 turbo convertable ?)were there as well as quite a few different beasts

Ferg - 14/9/05 at 04:11 PM

Yeah, much as David said. I risked a gallon or so of the precious inflammable liquid to check out the Black Horse and was delighted by (in no particular order) the company, the pub ambience, the pub music and the pub car park.
I quite fancy the Hot Rod meet!!

We even had some cabaret laid on as a death-defying scooter kid went past a Discovery right outside the pub on the inside, that's right, between the Land Rover and the path!!!

Oh and there was a gorgeous yellow Locost there!!!

Danozeman - 14/9/05 at 08:16 PM

My appologies. Couldnt make it in the end. I will definatley attend the next one. I want to meet you chaps.

piddy - 15/9/05 at 06:32 PM

Hi.
I presently run the East Anglia Branch of RHOCAR (Robin Hood owners).
As you may or may not know robin Hood owners club caters for any type of kit car not just hoods.
I now own a Luego as doe's another member. We have a locost and Cobra in the local club.
The branch organises activities for local members, as well as, providing a wealth of knowledge and advice to new builders. We as an Area attend seven area meeting each year at the Park Hotel in Diss, Norfolk, five National kit car shows (Stafford, Detling, Stoneleigh, Newark & Donington) . We also attend several local events.
I would like to welcome any of you that would like to attend.
The area meetings will be at the Park Hotel, Diss, Norfolk at 11.15am on the Second Sunday of each month from April through to October inclusive. If you’re not sure of the hotels location I can send you a map. Don’t be put off by the term meeting, we get together for a very informal gathering before and after there is plenty of time to study the cars present. We often take a run out to other locations after the meetings so those of you that haven’t completed your project can also take a ride as a passenger in another member’s car.

jonno - 15/9/05 at 08:30 PM
