Colchester area
BKLOCO - 11/10/05 at 10:08 PM

I've noticed that just recently there have been quite a few posts from new (and not so new) forum members in the Colchester area.
I was wondering if it was time to start thinking about a Colchester or North Essex locost group.
Thoughts please.

it looks like the Black Horse at Stratford St Mary is gonna be a regular meet, nice to put some faces to names , shame you could'nt make it.

BKLOCO - 11/10/05 at 10:32 PM

That will be great if this is to become a regular meet As you say I can't make it on the weeks I work late shift unless I have advance notice.
If it is to become a regular meet then maybe it ought to be made the same day every month. What do you think?
Perhaps you could make this suggestion at this weeks meet.

jonno - 11/10/05 at 10:39 PM

Possibly Sunday's late morning in the summer, not sure about winter times yet thou. Was there till about 9:30ish tonight, i dont really mind what days or times really just a little notice (apart from Friday eve's or Saturdays, the wife works and i gotta baby sit ! )

BKLOCO - 11/10/05 at 10:43 PM

How many turned up tonight?

jonno - 11/10/05 at 10:51 PM

about 10-15 i think job to tell, there was a few bikers about. Only me and David in kits thou, quite a few still building

Donners90 - 12/10/05 at 07:08 AM

Is there a South Essex meet, or can join your gang (when I'm on the road)??!

David Jenkins - 12/10/05 at 07:23 AM

Yes - good crowd last night. 2 with cars (me and jonno), 2 with cars who didn't bring them along (for good reasons!) and all the rest had 'cars in progress'. Looks good for the future...

I'd like to propose that we have the winter meetings in the daytime, e.g. late morning on a Sunday. Gives everyone a chance to bring their cars, wander round the car park with a beer, etc. (weather permitting, of course).

Doesn't always have to be at Stratford St Mary, although it is convenient for Essex & Suffolk drivers. Might have to have an occasional one a bit further north for the benefit of the North Suffolk/East Cambridge brigade.

cheers,
David

I'd be interested in meets but live near Chelmsford - so it's a bit far to drive for an evening.

Are there any meets this way??

Mark.

Many thanks for arranging last night. It was good to meet the faces behind the user names.

it has given me renewed inscentive to complete my car. Although it is easy to underestimate the amount of works involved in completing it and getting it SVA'd I would hope to be on the road and attending meetings with it with in the next couple of months.
Please keep me updated on the time and place of the next meeting.

Thanks David for organizing the meet, (on behalf of Bruce). A good meet, ditto the above remarks.
Lucky with the weather though, how many October evenings are that warm & dry?

Perhaps if we use this as a regular venue we should pick another night, say 1st or 3rd tuesday,
so we don't clash with the bikes. (Nothing against bikers, I'm one myself.) In the better weather
I can see even greater numbers turning up then the car park would be a bit of a squeeze.

I'm with David for the coming months though, Sunday mornings would be better.
At least in daylight we could get a better look at the cars.

As for a venue, East Angia is a big area. Bury St Eds is about the middle, but it's a pig to get to from the south.
Like David, I'm thinking of Craig, Jon, Rusty, and the likes. I don't know what the answer is.
Maybe we should move it about, but then I do like the idea of a regular meet in the same place.

Anyway, thanks everyone for a grand night.

We should definatelly keep these meets going, I think there were a lot of first timers there last night (me included) so there definatelly seems to be a demand.

More cars turning up in daylight would also encourage other builders to come along to nose around so they can overcome their latest 'challenge'.

Sunday mornings seem like a good idea.

David Jenkins - 12/10/05 at 10:27 AM

Perhaps we can pass the task of organising the event around each month, to get to new venues.

As for the weather, I dressed warm for the drive in my no-windscreen car, and got home sweating at 9:00pm last night! Phew, what a scorcher!

There apears to be two schools of thought here. One a fixed venue and one a floating venue.

It would be a good and fair idea for a floating venue, and i enjoy driving. But a floating venue would potentially put off some people who feel like joining in for the first time but not knowing where the meeting point is and so give up.

A solution would be to have a fixed venue that is used on alternate months and the floating venues can be arranged to provide an interesting driving experience/ change of Scene. this would have the benifit that if you could not find the floating venue you would already know where the next one would be.

Nice to put some faces to names , but I glad I didn't go in the Luego as it persistantly rained on the way home in the Stanstead area. Bit of a trek from Cambridge as already suggested somewhere in the middle of Anglia would perhaps be better ?. Look forward to seeing people again.

blockhead_rich - 12/10/05 at 07:39 PM

Good to see my fellow builders. Perhaps next time we will get a few more cars eh. I suggest that we could have a regular meet near Colchester for Essex / Suffolk lads (and lasses?) and also one further up the A14. Then we can attend which ever ones we want too! But either way we need to make them regular occurances late Sunday mornings sound good to me at least while the evenings are dark anyway.

Rich
P.S. Anyone know a good car electrical man locally who could help me out???

BKLOCO - 13/10/05 at 01:32 PM

Whats your problem with electrics blockhead_rich?
I'm not specifically an auto elec. Electro mech engineer and will help if I can. Just up the road at Kelvedon.

RazMan - 14/10/05 at 11:03 PM

I'm up for it lads! (and possibly lasses )
I didn't know about the last meet until the night before so I was unable to come ...... but the next time I hope to be there. It will be good to see a few of the faces behind the avatars.
One problem - I have been to a few of these gigs before (Nissan 200SX club) and although we are all familiar with each other on the board (oooerrr) we stand the real risk of just wandering around the venue looking daft, slowly getting rat-arsed, mumbling to ourselves because we can't find anyone to talk to.

Can we all wear flashing neon hats with our forum names to identify ourselves?

What? Am I the only one then?

Well, it's just an idea

jonno - 14/10/05 at 11:14 PM

Thats one reason i turned up in the Dutton not the tin top . Everyone there seems to get on quite well, there was quite a few first timers (including me). Hope to see you at the next meeting

David

rusty nuts - 15/10/05 at 07:08 PM

would have come in mine but although weather was fine there forecast was for rain and unfortunatly I don't live just down the road but maybe if I get a hood sorted will try it. But you do need a tee shirt surely?

rusty nuts - 19/10/05 at 06:45 PM

Did someone at last weeks meet say they were looking for some Cortina front hub assemblies? Send me a U2U if it was you.

blockhead_rich - 21/10/05 at 09:02 PM

Sorry for the delay in replying to your mail BKLOCO but I've been rather busy of late.

I'm a mechanical Engineer by trade and Electrics is just not my cup of tea. I'm fine if someone can tell me which wire goes where but as for figureing it out myself, well it would take me for ever (I think) .

So the car's on the back burner until I've fitted a new kitchen for the nearest and dearest and I've found a bit of help.
