Hellfire - 17/1/06 at 01:04 PM

Looks like Javelin have a new venue for Trackdays and are currently offering an introductory rate of £79 for the day - open pit lane - smooth tarmac track.

Anybody up for it???

Javelin

Has anyone done this track, or is anyone familiar with it?

Looks good but noticed this comment in the description: -

"This format also means that we can cater for single seater / open wheeled cars that are usually unable to join in the fun of a normal lapping style trackday.

Does this mean that Javelin don't allow sevenesque cars on their trackdays?!

Surely Sevens are not single seat or open wheeled so this comment doesn't apply - does it??

An open wheeled car is any car that has wheels outside of the main body, ie not protected by bumpers etc. That counts a seven as open-wheeled does it not?

Or do bicycle wings class as "body" in this case, even though the wheels are outside the "main" body?

PAUL FISHER - 17/1/06 at 01:56 PM

They don't class 7's as open wheeled vehicles, they are referring,to vehicles like formula fords for example, and a lot of special hill climb and sprint vehicles, for safety reason's they don't allow these vehicles to run on normal track days.
As this event is being run as a sprint type event,ie cars being set of one at a time with no chance of contact ,or overtakingbetween cars it is deemed safe for open wheeled cars.

I'll be up for it should be a good venue.
Open wheel cars are deemed formula fords and the like as paul rightly says. They have to draw the line somwhere as if they allowed open wheel cars you would always get someone with an old F1 car driving on the same track as a golf GTI

Didn't notice the sprint style runs stated in the description - Looks like Cadwell could be a better option.

when i read on their website that the new venue was RAF barkston, i assumed it would be an airfield and never gave it a second thought!

Have a look on the Rhocar site for details of Barkston they have been doing it for years. Timed sprint circuit, 90 down the back straight. How many runs do you get for your money?

Hellfire - 17/1/06 at 08:24 PM

As many as you want by the looks of things. Once you finish, you just rejoin the queue and off you go again.

def be up for that sort of thing if they run it again near spring summer time!
