Southern Xmas Thing
Ben_Copeland - 14/10/03 at 08:47 PM

Any ideas if we are gonna have a Xmas do, like the "Northerns"

Would be nice to all have a meal together somewhere, not sure what you lot have done on past christmas's.

Somewhere central to everyone would be nice

Deckman001 - 14/10/03 at 09:13 PM

I'm up for it, best we get the map book out before the wlm book the Heathrow plazza for it

Jason

' Walton's further than box hill '

chrisg - 14/10/03 at 09:16 PM

Be careful

Some of yon shandy drinkers aren't allowed in pubs.

Come oooooop north to ours, we'll throw another whippet on the fire.

Cheers

Chris

Deckman001 - 14/10/03 at 09:21 PM

It's all right chris all the 'bans' have been withdrawn now

Jason

Ben_Copeland - 14/10/03 at 09:22 PM

Oppp North... it a bit to far for a meal !

We'll sort something down here

chrisg - 14/10/03 at 09:25 PM

I doubt it

The words piss, up and brewery spring to mind!

Cheers

Chris

Ben_Copeland - 14/10/03 at 09:27 PM

Not with me on the case

Already got the maps out, and good pub guide

Deckman001 - 14/10/03 at 09:29 PM

Seeing as you've got most of the breweries oop there, i take it you're talking from experience chris

Jason

chrisg - 14/10/03 at 09:31 PM

Ssssssssshh!

Cheers

Chris

Deckman001 - 14/10/03 at 09:34 PM

Sorry

Jason

Ben_Copeland - 14/10/03 at 09:45 PM

*cough*

Back to the subject

How does Sevenoaks area sound ?

Need area opinions (that are fair to everyone)

Mark H - 15/10/03 at 08:20 AM

Hmmm - not sure if Sevenoaks has got a poncy winebar...

Surrey Dave - 15/10/03 at 08:23 AM

Sounds good to me!

Is Moat Park open all year, could be a meeting point........................

Ben_Copeland - 15/10/03 at 08:31 AM

Mark.... dont you start causing trouble Dont need your sort around here !!!

Moat Park is a possiblity.... have to go have a look at it i guess

ned - 15/10/03 at 09:14 AM

Somewhere not too far from the m25, between the m26 and a3 would be my guess. Hopefully near enough for kent people and near enough for the west london mafia...

I guess an idea of numbers (or potential interest) would be good, but first i guess we'd need a date, so anyone with ideas for dates, post them up aswell.

Ned.

Ben_Copeland - 15/10/03 at 10:13 AM

Well somewhere near chistmas obviously... but not too close. Weekend again, for working people.

Say 13th or 14th of december maybe ?

Surrey Dave - 15/10/03 at 10:19 AM

'Moat ParK' I meant for monthly meeting not for Xmas meal , what do you think I am , a Red Deer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ben_Copeland - 15/10/03 at 11:09 AM

I dont know what Moat Park is.... don't suggest it in this thread cos this is about the xmas meal

Chris Leonard - 15/10/03 at 11:11 AM

13th December - no good for me I'm sorting out a boys weekend in Amsterdam for that time: .... of course could make it the Grasshopper in Amsterdam - Easy jet flights are starting from Stanstead and the return is only about £60.00

Ben_Copeland - 15/10/03 at 11:15 AM

Ok, so maybe we should set it at the first Sunday of December !!!

6th or 7th of December ???

ned - 15/10/03 at 12:13 PM

I suppose another option would be a lunch or afternoon bbq following the meet in the morning if it was on the first sunday of december. that is if anyone'd be willing to have us all round! (everyone'd chip in for food/drink obviously)

just thinking out loud...

Ned.

barrie sharp - 15/10/03 at 01:58 PM

I am in the south parking for 10 gas bbq and a bed and breakfast place but slightly to the left of sevenoaks
Okehampton in Devon!!
still might be worth a trip next summer!

Perhaps Mark Allanson and me have a southwest xmas party how about at PZ Mark!

[Edited on 15/10/03 by barrie sharp]

theconrodkid - 15/10/03 at 02:47 PM

got a good chineese round the corner from me

Jasper - 15/10/03 at 06:15 PM

Somewhere in the Reigate area may be good - central for both Kent/Surrey/WLM/sussex, there is a good and very large pub on the road between Dorking and Reigate, how about a Sunday lunch??

Ben_Copeland - 15/10/03 at 07:11 PM

Sunday Lunch could be kinda cool.

Any idea what the pub is called Jasper?

Surrey Dave - 15/10/03 at 07:59 PM

I think the one nearer Reigate is 'The Jolly Farmers?, and the one nearer Dorking is a Harvester , used to be 'The Arkle Manor'?( probably best).

ned - 16/10/03 at 09:16 AM

Barrie,

Perhaps something could be arranged to coincide with the exeter show, can't remember how far okehampton is from there though...
perhaps a new thread if its a good enough idea..?

Ned.

barrie sharp - 16/10/03 at 07:49 PM

sorry not there that weekend and 30miles in the wrong direction
but another day and we'll have a southwest meet.
NOW where this south xmas shandy drink going to be.

donut - 16/10/03 at 09:30 PM

chrisg - 17/10/03 at 11:26 PM

just curious...

Ned.

Jasper - 20/10/03 at 09:49 AM

NO bloody other halves, they only get bored in 5 minutes by our fascinating conversation and then want to drag us home to put up shelves 20 minutes after that.....

bob - 20/10/03 at 04:48 PM

Yup !!!

theconrodkid - 20/10/03 at 06:20 PM

bob - 20/10/03 at 07:12 PM

Tim

The divide is where ever you want it to be,if you want a christnas doo with the flat beer drinking wippet and pidgeon boys in flat caps its up to you.

On the other hand there is allways the T-total club down here .

Jeeze i just want to go out for a crack with the lads, maybe there is a midland crimbo doo.

Anyhow
The Goat Country Carvery 47 upper haliford road shepperton TW17 8RX.

starters are from £2.75 to £3.65
Main at the carvery is £7.25
desserts are £2.75 to £3.65

Crimbo lunch is £11.25 with crimbo pud and coffee.

There hows that

[Edited on 20/10/03 by bob]

Jasper - 20/10/03 at 07:23 PM

Sounds good to me .....

theconrodkid - 20/10/03 at 08:05 PM

Tim the divide is normally at watford, spose we could let you be an honary southerner for the night

Viper - 20/10/03 at 08:18 PM

Well i am originaly a Whitechapel lad.
and is that Watford or Watford Gap?

theconrodkid - 20/10/03 at 08:20 PM

watford as in watford recently voted the most dangerous place on a saturday night

chrisg - 20/10/03 at 09:18 PM

FYI

The "south" starts at Chesterfield, and some of those in southern Sheffield show certain tendancies

Cheers

steve m - 22/10/03 at 04:02 AM

were when and with who, that is the question
so far the plan has taken in kent, surrey, london, sussex, cornwall (to ffing far)
what about paris, every other part of the south has had a mention

or was it a pub crawl
dont go there!!!!

I do not normally agree with Chrs G, but the northern whippet has made the best sugestion on this thread

"Pick a time pick a place, then you find out who wants to come"

and please no partners, coz I hate puting shelfs up !!!
anyway I doubt if the date will coincide with my days off, as I do permanent nights, but if it does I will be their,

my vote, goffs park hotel, crawley, good food not bad price, place is never packed.

you lot can stay there, and I will go home 10 mins walk, 30 mins crawl, 1hr 30 when you fall over in the hedge in the rain and fall asleep, yes I did do it
and if Hicost is coming, he can stay at mine, but he will have to hop

final word

reigate- croydon pretty central ??

Ben_Copeland - 22/10/03 at 12:13 PM

If Reigate and Croydon is central, then we'll go for the pubs meantioned before by surrey dave. Someone that knows them, and is close to them.... please can you check them out, as i am away atm.

The problem with me just saying... ok i've picked this pub, this time... is, that i get people turning around saying, oh well thats too far, thats the same weekend as my holiday away. The point of this thread was to see what people thought about it, and when people wanted it. Not to force people to go to a place of my choice

this is where chris don't care and saya tough cause he's a northener, no offence intended

theconrodkid - 22/10/03 at 02:45 PM

so whats occuring then chaps?

Deckman001 - 22/10/03 at 03:28 PM

Do people want safe 'traditional' x/mass food or something a bit different
spose Donut, gasgasgas and myself could check out the local joints in and arround Croydon, nice food and plenty of drinking places, but we would need to know, ie :- some one set up a poll !! fri night or sat night drinks, or day time for food sat or sun prefered, we can then sort out places to visit, and confir with surrey dave about places in Reigate !!
Right sorted !! some one who knows what they are doing ! sort the poll !! and we'll do the rest
Jason

Peteff - 22/10/03 at 04:26 PM

Some people say it starts at Scotch Corner Chris. I must get on to my MP and sort out some of that London weighting. The cost of living here in the South is crippling. I might even have to get a job.

yours, Pete.

JoelP - 22/10/03 at 04:50 PM

perhaps if you ask chris nicely he'll organise yours too?!

Ben_Copeland - 22/10/03 at 05:34 PM

So how about it then Jay???

Andy

P.S. Started my engine for 1st time today...broom broom, the beast is ALIVE!!
