Hey all
need some quick advice. I was stripping my escort mk2 today and i managed to shear one of the bolt that holds the alternator to the chassis. DOH! the main thread is still in. i thought about trying to weld the end of the bolt back on and hopefully the bolt will hold. Plus the heat might help loosen the rust. any ideas!? Thanks guys!

If there's enough of the bolt still sticking out, you may be able to plug weld a nut on there.

if the bolt is broken off flush I'd reccomend an "easy out" if you have such a thing on that side of the pond.
you basically drill a specific size hole in the bolt and drive a tappered square bit with teeth, into it, then turn out with a wrench, helps to heat it a bit as well.

cheers guys i give that a try

Do not use 'easyouts'. If it was tight enough to shear the bolt, an easyout doesn't stand a chance - all you will be left with is a lump of tool steel to try and drill out to get the remains of the bolt and the easyout from it's present location...

Things of evil, them things...

Nightkid, I presume it's a typo?

Alternator bolted to the chassis?
