Hi,
The rear door won't unlock on the wife's 2004 Polo and therefore the door won't open. If I pump the handle, hit it, use the key,
wiggle the internal handle, press the unlock button, do a rain dance and swear at it, it'll open if it feels like it.
Is the lock toast and in need of replacing or is there a common fault that anyone is aware of?
Thanks!
Jon
Yes it needs a new lock I'm afraid
Balls. Thanks Ian. I feared as much.
If you want to get it open start the engine and get the revs to 2000 to 2500 revs and get someone to try and open it inside or outside it sometimes works . Due to a voltage spike .
My Toledo passenger door lock suffered the same stubbornness. I took it out and opened it up, turned out the connector pin joints were dry. A quick
solder flow on them to get them attached and the issue disappeared.
Might be worth a look.
Is it electric locking or is there a vacuum pump that is piped to each door? My polo is vacuum with a noisy pump in the right wheel arch. A leak in
any of the four lines tends to disable the lock that line goes to although the others still work and the boot.

Same thing happened on SWMBOs 2007 Touran this year. Rear door locks had to be replaced to fix it. Deeply annoying, but no damage done to the car. If you Google it it's not an uncommon VAG issue.
