Zetec crankcase breather advice please!
adrianreeve - 1/11/11 at 10:00 PM

Hi there

Can I block off the lower crankcase breather, and just put a filter on the cam cover outlet of my silver top zetec, or do I need to use both outlets, connected to a catch tank?

Opinions and reasons please!

Cheers

Adrian

Why would you want to block of the bottom end breather may i ask?

As far as I'm aware the bottom end one wont do anything as it relied on some sort of back pressure from the original inlet manifold to open.

I'd wait for someone else to confirm this though!

Reading them threads, i would open it up and send it to a catchment tank.

I find mine likes to breath from both the crank and rocker cover so would not block it up. I dont have a catch tank but do need to fit one as after a blat will leave a little oil from both ends. More to add to the winter mod list!

GBS seem to blank off the bottom breather but couldn't help thinking it can't be a good idea. The original one would have been plumbed into the intake (negative crankcase ventilation I think) for emissions reasons but I've fed mine into ta catch tank along with the upper one. Seems OK so far and has survived a trackday without issue. I kept the oil seperator box also by the way.
