Type 9 strip. How?
Jason Fletcher - 22/11/11 at 07:18 PM

The case bolts are out and the two halves are loose but it looks like the gear selector rod could be stopping it from moving more than a couple of mm. Is there any step by step manual anywhere on this subject??

thanks
Jason

this might be a bit more use

looks like the 5th gear selector is whats limiting? getting the top cover off might let you undo the selector forks in the main part of the box?
failing that, sledge hammer...

I have a manual Haynes manual that covers the type 9. If I get chance I can scan the revevent pages and probably email across to you, if you want to U2U your email address over that is.

You have to knock out the roll pin that holds the stirrup bit onto the end of the selector rod, the bit the plastic stirrup clips too. Support it with a bit of wood while you hit it as it can bend, the stirrup bit should then slide off. There is the 5th gear detent mechanism cover that is bolted onto the drivers side of the tail housing with 2 bolts, depending on the age of the box there will either be a spring and pin under it or nothing. The tail hosing will then slide off providing you have removed the speedo drive.

Bad news is the 5th gear detent mechanism normally gets damaged if you try to force the tail housing off without first removing the mechanism cover, fingers crossed for you.

Hope that helps.
