ST170 Quick Question .....
monck - 21/12/12 at 09:10 PM

All i want to know are do zetec vernier pulleys fit the st170 engine ?

Im aware the inlet camshaft pulley has VCT but ill be using a delete kit from US

Reason being i have 2 zetec vernier pulleys

Yes but the centre hole need to be drilled out a bit.

Cheers in an ideal world id buy the proper ones but i found they sell them as a single unit as people just buy exhaust ones to use with VCT on exhaust cam and there just over £100 each

I gave £40 for these zetec ones so no brainier if its possible

Any idea how much they need to be or how i could find out ?

St170 verniers are different to normal zetec pulleys..

[/img]The standard zetec verniers fit the exhaust cam perfectly. I have one on mine and my own boss so I can use the outer of the second pulley on the inlet cam.

One thing that needs making is a cam timing locking tool as the zetec one is not right for the st.
Think it's 5 or 6 mm flat bar but need on end bent to allow the inlet cam to be set for the vernier at zero.
Not got the figures with me but it need something like a 30 to 40 degree bent in.

i thought about this from a previous post and if you set the cam timing as per the flat bar and set the vernier at 0, tighten the camshaft pulley bolts turn the engine over a couple of times and then re-check.

then retard exhaust vernier by 3 deg on the vernier which is 6 deg@crank
then alter the advance on the inlet vernier by 12deg which is 24@crank

as the static timing with the locking tool will set the inlet@85deg add the above setting this will give you 109deg of advance on the inlet which i'm told is about optimum for the oem cams

if anyone can see a flaw in my above method let know

Something like that. I wanted to check the timing on the standard vct pulley, not got the belt cover off yet to see. But someone has done it with the bent bar and work fine, if you get the angle right.

If needed i have one of these LINK , it's an svt lockout tool. i'm more than willing to post about the country if need be as long as it comes home.
