Navigator / Co-Driver wanted for GOME rally 2012
I'm planning on entering the Guild of Motor Endurance rally next year, May 2012 - edited. Details further down in this section or here:

I'm going to do it in a Mk1 MX5 in a team with a couple of other identical cars so we can share spares and tools - guys from the MX5 forum -
cheap reliable and comfortable (proper roof if it rains!!).
So I'm looking for a navigator / co-driver. As you can see from the regs this rally is not about point to point time accuracy so is MUCH easier
on the navigator than their usual rallies. It's all about just following the correct route and making it to the checkpoints and hopefully
finishing the 6000kms and seeing 20 countries and all the best driving roads in Europe.
Cost is £1250 each person and includes ferry and hotels from London to northern Italy. Fuel will be split and shouldn't be too bad as it's
a 1.6ltr lightweight car. Food on top.
If you just want to navigate then it will just be £1250 + fuel and food. If you want to co-drive then I would want some extra towards the cost of the
car / insurance / breakdown recovery etc as I'm getting a car specifically for this event.
£250 will get your place booked, with the balance next year.

Makes my Club Triumph offering (10 countries, 5 days, 4 nights, 2 overnight stops) look a little hardcore!

A Spitfire ???? Are you kidding!! I want something reliable and comfortable with good handling, not a rusty old weezy thing that handles like a
blancmange!! Sorry, nothing personal, but I'm not a big fan of Triumphs, MG's etc etc

Would be a good trip, but out of my time and money commitments right now...
Just to say though, I think you may have put the wrong year (2011) in your OP...

Hmm, your experiences of old cars has not been the same as mine
OK, I'll give you the rusty bit but not the dessert.
And the great thing about spitfires (and mg's etc) is that the ladies never refuse a ride in one

Mine was 23 at the time
Old cars retain a certain charm. To be fair the MX5 is just an updated version of the sportscars, and has some of that charm.
Sadly none were as quick as my spitfire when I did a couple of autosolos a few years ago. Mind you, I was beaten (by a midget, he was fastest car
there, including a selection of 7's)
