HEATS ON AT CRAIL

WHEELS WITHIN WHEELS: HEATS ON AT CRAIL

Oct 29 2004

Bruce Booth

CRAIL Raceway are turning up the heat for the final event of the season when Max Power return to the Fife drag strip this Sunday.

The highlight of the day's events will be an interactive fire show performed by the 10,000hp, jet-powered Fireforce, a saloon-bodied machine which can deliver blistering speeds of more than 270mph.

Also burning rubber will be the sensational Dutch jet quad Pyromaniac, pictured, which can accelerate from zero to 60mph in a mind-blowing second.

The Max Power events are the busiest of the season and crowds will be treated to a seasonal extra in the shape of the Crail Raceway bonfire, which will be fired up as part of the breathtaking pyro display.

Meanwhile, organisers are on the look-out for willing participants to take on the Max team at Car Sumo, which will take place in front of the marquee at 12.30pm. Engine destruction will follow.

For those visiting Crail for the first time, participants can take part in two disciplines - the 'Run What You Brung' action on both the drag strip and the new drift/sprint track, where drivers complete a circuit followed by a figure-ofeight around the extended drifting oval.

A popular addition to the day's line-up of events is Crail Raceway's special stunt artic unit, which will be performing 'burn outs' and 'doughnuts', climaxing in the ultimate 'blow out'.

To take part, you'll need a valid UK driving licence and the signing-on fee is £15.

This entitles participants to unlimited runs on both the strip and the drift/ sprint track.

Gates open at 9am and entry is £10. Under 16's half price.

The quarter-mile strip and the drift/sprint track open from 9.30am until 5pm. Gates close at 7pm.

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!
