Practical Performance Car Nurburgring Trackday
I was wondering is anyone else from here planning on going on the PPC Nurburgring trip? 11th-14th August, it's £99 and that includes your
ferries and camping fees for the weekend.
I'm seriously thinking of going along even though it's 850 odd miles there and 850 odd back to/from N. Ireland. I reckon it'd be
good to go with a group of other English speaking petrol heads, and if any of you lot are going all the better!
Cheers
Ali

Sorry I should point the 850 miles is from from Northern Ireland!
From the south of England the journey would be more like 3-400 miles and the same return.
I'll contact PPC and ask are places available, etc.

It would be nice if they had a kit van for all of us in 7's who want a passenger as well.

OK I rang 01304380244 (Continental Car Tours, who are organising the trip) and asked a few questions.
There are places left (good news there!), there is no kit van accompanying the trip, so you won't have much room for extras (like passengers!)
in a Seven.
The schedule is the 7:45am Ferry from Dover to Calais on Thursday the 11th August, returning on Monday the 15th.
It costs £99 and that covers your ferry and camping arrangments.
Jay, you'd be well advised to do a couple of thousand miles in the car as a shakedown first, doing a round trip of 1700 odd miles with a couple
of trackdays in the middle is really gonna stress the car. It's gonna be a real long run for driving this type of car as well, driving down to
Dublin can be tiring and it's just 100 miles. Also I'd strongly advise some kind of europe-wide breakdown cover - my insurer Adrian Flux
provides this so I won't be stuck if all the wheels fall off after a lap of the 'ring!
I'm currently considering it - I've not booked anything but the more I think about it the more I think I'll do it. See the trouble
watching 'The Long Way Round' can cause?

am contemplating this, but its a long way for a high milage 205 gti, the locost won't be ready by then..
if i did go i could offer a parking space and bed for the night before leaving to anyone interested, we're only just over an hour from dover at
that time in the morning..
I might also be able to carry some spares too, come on - convince me!! even her indoors has given the nod!!

Dun Laoghaire-Holyhead £279.00 (return)fast ferry outbound 11:10am Tuesday 9th August 2005 returning Dublin 09:20am Wed 17th 2005.
The 'ring' itself costs
Ticket type Price in Euros Sterling equiv Sterling per lap
Single lap €15 £10.48 £10.48
5-lap one-day ticket* €60 £42 £8.40
6-lap ticket €81 £57 £9.50
12-lap ticket €153 £108 £9.00
all info courtsey of Ben Lovejoy's site http://www.nurburgring.org.uk
I have no idea why a 5 lap ticket is cheaper than a 12 lap ticket!
According to http://julesperry.com/ring-2005-jp.htm the ring is shut on Friday 12th but open 10am - 18:45 on Sat 13th and 10:00 - 19:30 on Sunday
14th.
My Schedule from NI
Quit work Tues 9th early say 7am. Down to Dublin port for 10am. Onto ferry for 11am. Crossing 1hr50m hours. Arrive in Holyhead at 12:30. Food.
Drive through Wales down to the midlands somewhere. Not too far on the first day, I'll be knackered! Route to be decided. Prob stay in a
B&B.
Up on Weds morning down towards Dover, stay near Dover (might take Ned up on his kind offer). Thur 11th up early morning, get to Dover for 6:45am.
Load car onto ferry, set off for Calais 7:45am. Not sure of crossing time, guess 1hr30m. In france 9:30am drive to Nurburgring, Ben lovejoy has a
set of directions, but I'm not sure how 'Seven friendly' they'd be - could be all motorways.
Arrive (hopefully) Thursday 11th evening, set up camp. Try the local brew.
Friday 12th, PPC mentioned some kind of legends racing thing, can't remember the details, I suspect this is happening this day since the public
is using the 'ring on Sat and Sun. A day to recover would be welcome.
Sat. 13th Ring trackday.
Sun. 14th Ring trackday.
Mon. 15th I don't have details on the return ferry time, but I suspect we'd set off early and return to Dover for Monday night.
Set off Tuesday 16th Morning to retrace our steps back towards Holyhead, North Wales. Book into B&B near Holyhead.
Up early Wed 17th onto ferry for 9am and over to DUblin for 11:30. Up North and home for 2pm Wed the 17th.
I'm tired typing it up, let alone driving it!
I still haven't booked anything, but at least now I've got an idea. At the weekend I'll stick some of these routes into autoroute
and see if the mileages are realistic/achievable.
Cheers
Ali

interesting to know the prices for laps of the ring itself. any idea if you could split the 12 lap ticket over 2 days? save a little bit over buying
2x 6 lap tickets lol

I'm strongly considering this too, along with a few guys from my uni motor club who all have (in varying degrees) more practical cars. As far as
I can tell the 5 lap ticket has to be used on one day, hence it's lower price. The 6 and 12 lap tickets are not limited to one day.
Cheers,
Matt.

Return car ferry and 3 nights camping? £99 sounds OK to me.
Mind you, all ferries to and from Ireland are utterly extortionate. My ferry to from Dublin-Wales is £250-280 return.
£99 sounds like a bargain!!

Rang up Contiental Car Tours today with the intention of booking my place on the Nurgburgring trip, only to find it's £198 quid - not £99. The
'£99' figure is quoted per person for 2 folks sharing a car.
For 1 person and a car they offered no saving at all.
Even if I wanted to bring a passenger after packing a weeks clothes, camping gear, tent, sleeping bag, some tools, spare petrol can etc I'd have
sod all room for a passenger anyhow.
I declined their offer.
I'm gonna make some enquiries and see if I can't book it myself cheaper. Apparently the NI Se7ens group can get a deal with the ferry
companies if it's motorsport related, I'm gonna try that.
I'd still like to go the same dates so there'll be a contingent of brits there that weekend I'll just have to see if I can get a
cheaper ferry or maybe look at going Larne-Stranraer ferry driving to Newcastle ferry to Hook of Holland then to Nurburgring route as it has a lot
less driving than driving down trough England.
