Today's Kirkistown Track Day

Just got back from the first (Northern Ireland) track day of the year at Kirkistown today. Fantastic. I had done a fair amount of work setting up the car over the winter (corner weights, tracking, camber and all). I also got new softer front (track) tyres.
Today I really saw the fruit of it all. She handled very, very well - much better than before, it allowed me to throw her into corners with so much more confidence, brake later and accelerate earlier - also my driving is definitley improving - very rewarding. The softer tyres on the front means she feels rock solid on the front and she starts to give gently and predicably at the back.
Andy's (WAM) Busa went very well, and pretty quickly - many thanks to OX and bike_power for helping out with that.
It even stayed dry all day, then after 5pm, when I'd got the car up on the trailer and the cover on - it started to rain!!!
One of the marshalls we know came across 5 15" slick tyres left over from a race meet the previous day with plenty of rubber left - I've taken these home and once my current track tyres go off I'll stick these on and see how they go. (Thanks George!)
Best of all the whole thing cost £30 and I managed to squeeze in 28 laps, took a mate a few laps (very impressed to the point of building one!) and the car ran perfectly all day - not a bother to her.
BTW Jay sorry about not being able to give your mate a lift - I had already promised a mate of mine a few laps, and I wanted to do a few laps by myself.
Perfect day.
Many thanks to the TSCC for organising it.

I stuck up a post listing all the trackdays in NI somewhere in the events section here a few weeks ago - there are 2 back to back (28th and 29th August - Bank Holiday weekend) might be worth a visit if you're interested.
All the best

Ali

I don't know if you saw Jimmy Dougan, he runs a Silver Locost Busa in the hillclimbs - he went out in front of the westies and they didn't catch him, mind you I was certain he would walk away from them and that didn't happen either. He is a very, very quick driver (last years TSCC hill climb champion), and the car's no slouch so those westies are pretty well sorted and well driven.
U2U me a phone no and I'll be in contact, I'm not sure about rivnutting the rear arches, I think I just bolted and used large washers to spread the load, or else plain riveted, I've never felt the need to remove them anyhow! I'd need to check how I attached mine to be honest.
