cadwell northern saloon car championship
i watched the racing today and really enjoyed it!!
i met a fellow locostbuilder and son Andy D and pete
ill let Andy give pete's results
one thing that i did see was a focus belonging to and driven by Andrew Gallagher now for a start i thought WOW it looked like a full works car
and it went like stink
but
i thought whats the point in just driving away from everything else in the field??
he may aswell have been on an empty track.
anyway im pleased i went today as i said earlier i really enjoyed the day, got really sun burnt and now im drinking water like its going out of
fashion

It's allways nice to meet up with like minded bods off here. See you again next Monday eh!
Yup, the big daddy Focii are mean machines, but cant help thinking, they dont get to really race with anyone.

Race report.
We totally cocked up the fuel requirements for a ten minute free practice and fifteen min qually session.
Pete managed only three laps, before the car spluittered, fastest a dissapointing 1:48.35 Class D position 3. He knew he'd gone faster round
Cadwell before.
Race 1
Pete got a bit boxed in, and a fair few cars streamed past in the "fast lane". He eventually settled down to chasing a class B
BMW, eventually getting past when the BM out-braked it'self at the gooseneck. He then chased down the next class D Fiesta, caught it, but no
time to mount an attack before the flag fell.
He finished a dissapointing 12th overall and 5th in class D. A fastest lap in class D of 1:45.69 was a consollation...
Race 2
Grid position was by second fastest quallifying time,
However! he made a much better start, braving it out round the outside of Coppice, and settled into a battle with a class D fezzy. Passed him,
and chased down Last year's champ, Gavin lee in his slightly more powerful Zetec engined Fiesta. A good battle was had, but Pete couldn't
find a way past.
Both class D races were won by a very powerfull (200bhp+ alledgedly) Saxo. Due to not making Quallifying he started from the back, but still got
to the front!
Anyway, I'd say it was Pete's best race to date. He got another 3rd in class, 9th overall, and another fastest lap in class D
1:44.60
There'll probably be some video up this evening some time..
And a few pics:
I suppose I should add, Pete was racing the black and white 1.6 Honda Civic.

I bet he's well pleased with those results Andy, the fastest laps in both races aswell, that goes to show with the right combination of luck he
should be finishing in 1st place.
What sort of lap times did the focus do out of interest.

He was well chuffed with the times, just a shame the results wern't better.
I think it's a while since the NSSCC have had a round at Cadwell, and you could tell a fair numer of drivers were either rusty, or
hadn't been before. Pete was falling over loads of them through Charlies, but then losing out on power down the back straight.
I'm sure he'll get a class win before the end of the year, he has the pace, just needs to polish up his race craft. Bit of raw meat
for breakfast perhaps?

It was very frustrating watching some of those video's,that BMW driver was so slow in most of the corners, especially the top of the goose neck,I
think I might have given him a bit of a tap through there touring car style .
Did that white fiesta have a 2.0 litre engine in it,appeared to have the legs on Pete down the straights, although he caught it up,but it looks like
his Civic could benefit with a few more ponies under the bonnet to help him get passed on the straights

The chap in the BM was having his first taste of Cadwell. Pete said after the first Fiesta slid down the inside, BM driver wised up, and kept the door
shut.
White / blue Fiesta has a Zetec on twin webers. It does have the legs on the Honda down the straights. (It was also suffering from a leaky damper,
hence oil on windscreen) I'm sure some of it is gearing. The Fiestas hold 4th down the straights, but the Honda runs out of revs and has to use
5th. Not ideal. Should be fine with the extra ponies though..
There are plans for more power, we've got cams & an Emerald ecu to go in some time. (Throttle bodies to get)
We (I) thought it probably best to get his first year under his belt, then try a more serious attack next year.

I should add, the last half dozen laps of the second race, he was defending against the red Ginetta. (Keeping tight lines into the corners)
There's the odd flash of red in the rear view mirror.
The Ginetta got past on the last lap, when Pete got a bit baulked at the mountain.
I think I'll try and fit a second mirror for the camera before the next race.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm pretty sure we'll be doing the early start. We had to be at the circuit for 7-15 for signing on, on Sunday
morning. That meant a 4-30 start. I'm not sure what time the briefing is for the trackday on Monday, but it wont be that early. It
should be a relaxed 5-30 start to the day!
BTW. Pete's next race is at Croft next Saturday, 11th July.
