Bi-monthly Brain Teaser

A man returns home at 7:30 each Friday and religiously winds up his prized eight-day grandfather clock in the hall before doing anything else. One Friday he gets in half an hour late, ignores the clock and heads straight upstairs. His wife, noticing the break in routine, says "Have you forgotten to wind up your clock?" He answers: "No, I'm going to do it later."

Why?

is it because the clocks have gone forward 1 hour and so it wo'nt need winding on for another 1/2 hour?.........or something similar.

Is because it's an 8 day clock and therefore is not fully unwound in seven days that waiting a bit longer won't matter?

I suspect there is more to it than that...

What a shower - there is a logical explanation and it's not to do with daylight saving time.

Rewinding the clock every 7 days will give the 8 day clock a "free"day after X wheeks.
Now that sounds logic... does it

It does sound logical but not the answer.

There is a 'reason' why he can't wind it up.

he's half an hour late cos he got robbed on the way home for his winding handle, so he goes upstairs to get the spare one. Plus he doesnt tell the wife he got robbed cos she's a nagging cow, and she will ask why he was in the massage parlour in the first place

The hour hand is covering the hole to wind up the mechanism?
