London-Athens 2012 GOME

London-Athens 2012

The Guild of Motor Endurance Sportscar Challenge for
2012 will be a twenty country, ten day, European Tour

This Olympian adventure for sportscar drivers will take place on the 20-29 May 2012. The Guild of Motor Endurance are returning to the format of the long distance sportscar events they started in 1997 to Agadir, and to Sicily in 1999. The emphasis for 2012 will be on completing the 7000km route rather than any time schedule.

From the Start in London cars and their crews will head for the channel ferry to France. Then via Belgium and Holland making for the German capital Berlin. The route then takes in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and into Greece. The return journey heads west into Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria and finally Italy. Navigation by simple to follow Road Book.

This European Tour is open to any make of sportscar, any model or year, modern or Classic. Whilst the specialist manufactures have been most successful on all previous Guild events, there’s now an opportunity for sportscars from the big manufactures to prove their ability.

The London-Athens will be commemorating the summer Olympics taking place in London in 2012. The objective is not just to reach Mount Olympus on the Aegean coast, home of the ancient Olympian Gods, but to continue to follow the adventurous drive back through the former Yugoslavia and eventually into Italy. For 2012 there will also be some exploring to do.

As well as the spectacular scenery there will be many outstanding places to reach en route. Berlin and Budapest are included in overnight stops, the mountain roads of the Carpathenians including the legendry Transfagarasan Highway, Transylvania and the Black Sea coast, on into Greece, Mount Olympus and Meteora. Eventually Kranjska Gora, Grossglockner and the Dolomites. Reaching all points on the route will be the 2012 Challenge.

The entry fee which covers overnight accommodation included in the itinerary is £1250pp. There is a pay plan available if required. If you own a sportscar and would like to take part, or be placed on the mailing list, please return the entry reservation below, together with the deposit to the Secretary of the event:

Deliberate inflammatory comment,

Are BEC's allowed?

(for those not in the know, certain cars were banned from the last couple of years circuit based competition due to being too fast despite lapping at the required lap times as other vehicles couldn't manage it)

Hi

Its per person and all cars are welcome. BEC, space shuttles anything that will run and start and vaguely sporty
Its a great value event considering the distance and hotels.

The BEC thing is finished now, its all about fun and driving.

2012

Hi Fozzie & Jasper

It will be an epic event and not one to miss, minimal timing and controls, only enough to keep you on the route so we can roll into 20 Countries.

Jasper it finishes in Italy in a spectacular area as well.

James

Cost

Hi Bob

I think the distance is going to be around 6000klm.

Are you looking at doing it as a passenger or a driver?

If a passenger I may well have a spare seat for you?

James

Right then, if it's 6000km round trip (Hicost to confirm) in a car than does 30mpg average (not Hicost's that's for sure!!) your looking at a total of 9.4 litre per 100km so a total of 564 litres, at £1.30 a litre that's £733 between two people.

If your average is 20mpg then it's 14.1 litre per 100km = £1100.
