I looked into this for my car and eventually just fitted an exup motor. They cost little, don't weigh much and keep life headache free.

I always figured I'd eventually come up with a use for the pulley too, maybe some sort of comedy flip up spoiler or aero screen.

If you really want to get rid of it though, do a google search for 'bike transplant central' - they had a circuit on there that may be of some use.
