Post-SVA - Adding Windscreen - MOT requirements?

Hi All,

I'm looking to try out a full windscreen on my Tiger Avon.

To enable me to get the car through its next MOT, I understand there may be a requirement to either add heater, windscreen wipers etc, or go to the complete extreme and add nothing at all.

Any advice you can give in this area and on the actual requirements would be useful to know.

Best, Ed

if you have a windscreen, you will need wipers, washers, and demisting (heater or electric like in rear windows on cars) and all the wiring that goes with those systems to have them work for MOT.

what is it you want to benefit from fitting a windscreen? if its just to keep the wind out your face on the motorway or round town, personally i'd go with a crash helmet, which is perfectly allowed for use on the roads in a car

have a look at the iva manual link below for what defines a aeroscreen ( which doesn't need wipers washers and demister) and what defines a windscreen (and does need the things mentioned)

also have a look at mot manual online
http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual/contents.htm
don't know how accurate it is now, if its updated but it should give you all the info on whats tested and required for MOT if you have a windscreen, as defined by the IVA manual (hope that makes sense lol)

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Or just fit a windscreen and take it off each year for MOT?

if you fit a windscreen and no wipers, you will regret it!!

it will rain while you are out driving

and unlike a crash helmet visor you cant wipe a windscreen with your hand.............

I've found on mine that the screen is too upright to clear with Rain-Ex alone. Most cars I've had will clear the screen above 40 mph, but on the Rush, the aerodynamics are all wrong.

Not having demisting is a bad idea. Guess how I know. First time it rained the negative pressure on the back of the windscreen caused horrible fogging and I had to stop by the side of the road in the pi$$ing rain until the rain stopped and the heat from the transmission tunnel(!) demisted the glass.

Correct, but as BenB says it is useful to have.

I´ve got one of the little electric heater demisters but haven´t used it yet so not sure if it will be up to the job.
