Toyota 4AGE 20V - V - Zetec
why do people go for a Zetec when the 4AGE gives more power & weights less?
can a 4AGE be fitted to a type 9 gearbox?

My guess is that that is your answer right there. Zetec bolts straight on. I don't know if availability of parts could be an issue?

4 age can be bolted to a type 9. Needs a different bellhousing though. Raw Engineering do all the stuff if i remember rightly:

The zetec is 2-a-penny wheras 4age is rarer and therefore more expensive.
Great motor though. Looks the part too!

There are plenty of 16 valve 4ages about, and quite a few imported 20 valves.
parts are very reasonable and available.
Most older toyota parts become discounted after a certain age and you can get copy bits ie,water pumps,belt tensioners etc from people like
Fensport.
Dont think the Zetec screams like the toyota though at 8000rpm!!!!!
If you are looking for 150 bhp plus the zetec may be better,but have you seen how big and deep a zetec is?
The toyota is tiny and quite light,and is basically a rip off of the old BDA lump.

20v is an good high reving engine. Zetec has 30% more weight but is an lot cheaper in standard form. An 2ov comes standard with trottle body,s so if
you do an fair compersation than you need them also on an zetec. and thats an 700 pond extra on the zetec.
correct raw is selling them an they have an rearwheel drive conversion.

well from where i am (asia) 20v is a lot cheaper and more abundant than the ztec...... so i think its good news for me that 20v is
lighter...hehe..
btw can anyone give me the the weight comparison of the two motors...thanks

I can tell you my 20V 4AGE with inlet manifold plus ITBs, block, head, sump, flywheel (ally) and clutch but minus the ancilliaries was 90kg. Add about
50 kg for the type 9 gearbox, bell housing and alternator and starter.

Oh and that certain book probably has a lot to do with peoples choice of engine as a lot of people have it in their head they should be using a Ford
engine.
As mentioned above the bell housing and clutch conversion kit probably puts people off as its around £330 in addition to the engine and GBX.

well 90 kg thats good... is it silvertop or blacktop, i have heard that blacktop is a bit lighter......
i wont be using type9 tranny, have my eyes on toyota t50 tranny... it weighs around 26 kgs...

Hi,
Blacktop and it would be maybe a kilo or so lighter but not much. My flywheel is about 3 kg lighter than the blacktop flywheel (which is the lightest
Toyota did).

or fit a toyota T50 gearbox, all alloy 5 speed super slick shift thingy that only wieghs 28kilo'.
some people state that i will blow up under 20v power but it doesn't !period!
goes like mad anywhere in the rev range and brings power in a whole different manner than a zetec does. it's very much alive whereas a well
set-up 1800zetec on webers (without any aditional stuff like cams etc) feels more plumb,
also returns more miles to the gallon btw
