Poll: How many of us are building from scratch?

as the title says, i thought it convenient to keep a check on how the forum is distributed (in terms of how many people with scratch built cars and how many with bought cars).

people who have finished their builds.... well vote if you want but know this: you are biasing the results

Scratch built refers to you making your own chassis and everything else and includes those who bought a few bits and bobs here and there

Bought build (couldnt find a better word) refers to you buying a made chassis and then doing the rest yourself or buying the whole smash...
i estimate probably 3/4 of the locostbuilders population is in this category....

I'm scratch building as I stupidly got taken in by Ron's book saying a schoolboy could do it and that you could learn to weld in a weekend and build a car for 250 quid as well. If I was going to start again now I'd probably buy a chassis.

Theres definitely more "bought" builders these days on this website and people are spending much more on their builds and are getting much better quality finishes too. Evolution of the hobby I suppose....

Definitely a scratch build,

but hopefully when the bodywork is finished I will have polished most of them out.

Scratch building; because if that smug young b*gger in Ron's book can, then so can I!
Having said that, he deserves to look smug. That little red rocket looks superb.

Scatch built, but didn't do the fibreglass.

Didn't vote because I didn't want to bias the poll.

We've got 6 or 7 scratch built/being built amongst the regulars at the Northants Group Meet.

Whoah! i am truly surprised! i had the vague notion that locost building would have migrated to a more simple buy-a-chassis and do the boring stuff yourself!

What led me to build a locost was the thought of building my own car. Ever since i was 5 I've always had the idea of building my own car. I started planning to build my own go-kart when i was 7 as i was tired of paying the money and needing the signature of my father to be able to use the adult karts.

The locost community has given me the opportunity to satisfy the dream i had developed and nurtured, ever since i was 5, to become true.

I believe the basic motivator to building a locost is the fact that once you have finished, you can say to yourself and others: " i have done all this with my bare hands!" I love that! and believe me... waiting 15 years for the one thing you have been craving to do is a bummer!...

I reckon you've got a self selecting group of respondants to this post. Im not sure its its representitive for the site as a whole. Think the part builders are busy looking at catalogues or something.....
