Sunday run in the peaks

All,

I know its short notice but there are a few of us meeting for a run up in the peaks tomorrow, stopping for lunch at one of the pubs on the way.

The plan is to meet at around 9:30 at the car park of the Crewe and Harpur Pub just off the A50 nr Derby.

Directions are : Leave the A50 at Junction 3 and take the A514 towards Swarkestone. The Crewe and Harpur is about a mile down the road on the right just before you cross Swarkestone bridge.

See you then.

Andy

Steve, Colin, Nick and ladies, thanks for the help today.

The recovery truck arrived after about 40 mins and after a very twisty, warm, nauseating ride in the back of his cab, dropped me at home.

I started spannering immediately and have a guess at the what the fault actually was !

See attached, looks like the other two bridges are cracked as well. The head was skimmed 400 miles ago and torqued up perfectly, wtf ??????

Andy

Hi, glad you got it back OK.
We were gutted that you did'nt make the full trip, but it was a good adventure whilst it lasted

It explains why the first 2 (3+4) plugs did.nt seem to make much difference when we tried them right at the start!

I guess the cause could be
A bad gasket
Not torqued as much as expected (innacurate wrench/dry threads)?
Block needs skimming too (unlikely)?
Compression too high?

Did you re-torque after the first 100 miles or so? might be a good plan?

All being well it should be a fairly quick job.

Perhaps see you at Donnington, else, all the best.

Col and Angie

Andy, have sent you an e-mail with some suggestions but it`s very weird how all 3 bridges have fractured. Almost as if the head wasn`t on tight enough? Maybe the bolts were bottoming out in the holes on final torque, especially if the head has been skimmed a couple of times. Dip some wire in the bolt holes and check the measurements etc.
