sorry to keep bothering y'all with computer trouble, but i cant get rid of this bastard...

StopScan finds it and tells me where it is on my hard disc, but i cant find it to delete it! windows explorer doesnt show it (only shows a few files in the temporary internet files), a direct search doesnt find it, and i cant work out why it doesnt come up. Plus, AVG doesnt even detect it.

the bastard...

any ideas anyone? my browser should delete everything in the TIF every time i close the browser anyway...

Go to this site and do an online scan. It should find any iffy files and get rid of them for you. You'll have to wait for the download but it gets most things and it works quicker next time you use it.

cheers pete, that site didnt find it either... thanks anyway though! when i came back it had finished, and a small box said something about AVG having found it and that i should run AVG to remove it...

nothing ventured nothing lost, as they say!

JoelP - 23/3/04 at 08:59 PM

this is an equally silly question - how do you get into dos?!? i searched for msdos prompt and it didnt find it...

is it something about pressing del as it boots up?

I'm a bit confused, Joel...

Did AVG find it or didn't it?

Did AVG give a file name and path?

Suggestions:
--AVG's website ought to have manual removal instructions.

--Maybe change settings in Tools-Folder Options of My Computer to show all file types (hidden and system)?

--Can you run AVG in safe mode?

--Try Start-Run msconfig and take a peek at your start up programs to see if the rat appears.

What's yer operating system? Maybe I can give some more suggestions.

Pete

its running winXP. Now, however, none of my checkers find it. So maybe it was removed somehow. Shouldn't have though because i never deleted anything. Not sure what goes on really, and nothing appears to be wrong with the system, so maybe it was a false alarm.

Definately came up yesterday. Im gonna leave AVG going this time and see what happens...

Cheers for the help anyway guys...
