3rd time of posting this now, 1st time my pooter crashed 2nd time i forgot to fill in the subject how annoying is that feature that it just loses all you text when you go back to fill in the subject (rant over)

Anyway, having spent just over a jear on here i feel i am suitably qualified to talk about the type of newbie threads and queations that arise on a weekly basis. The things asking for information on Steel V's Ally floor / which kit to choose / harness mounting positions / hung or floor mounted pedals / engine choice / diff ratios but to name a few.

One reason this is such a common occurance is that it is quite hard (and getting harder with more history) to search for what you want. It is often the case that its easier and quicker to ask someone the basic quastions than to search for it yourself (im sure we have all done it ). It can wear a little thin when the same people are answering similar questions on a weekly basis im sure.

It would be easier to search if we could search within the 'Subject' field on its own - is this a reasonable request

I'd second that if it's at all possible. Something like google where you can search for 2 words and it will find posts with them both in, even if they aren't in the right order, would be ideal.

For example at the moment if you want to search for "aluminium tank" the search won't, as far as I know, find a post with the sentence "How to make a fuel tank out of aluminium".

This would be a very useful addition to the site and would certainly make finding info easier (hopefully!)

I agree that there is always a noobie asking whats already been discussed its good for a memory jogger but grates a bit after a string of repeated questions
How about a section on frequently asked questions for new users(noobies).

Other then that this is one of the best sites i have ever visited (well done chris)

I'll second that bit as well (I seem to be doing a lot of seconding today!). This site is fantastic, there's no way I could ever have built a car without the help of everyone on here. It's just that I could be even more fantasticer...

the search engine isnt as bad as it seems. There are tags (IIRC) that can be added to searches to make more complex searches. I, unfortunately, dont know what they are. But someone said recently that it was possible.

If so, an easy solution would be just to post these search options somewhere, or maybe here.

See if chris spots the thread and answers!
