Problems with 'catch up', and also with missed new posts
David Jenkins - 7/5/13 at 03:58 PM

The problem with the 'catch up' function has been lurking for quite a while, and it would be really nice if it was fixed - when Chris moved the site 'catch up' worked correctly, then he 'upgraded' the site and it went faulty again! I do like to be able to clear the site when I've read everything I want to see.

Another problem I noticed today was that I'm not seeing new posts notified on the pages - I went to look at my thread on one-sided brake cylinders and found that 3 new posts had arrived that I didn't know about - there was no 'orange envelope' icon to tell me that there was something to look at.

I don't know if these issues are linked - but I suspect that they might be...

So, is it just me having this problem?

Not sure what u mean.. email notification? Thread subscription? Works for me, this is my bookmark so I can see the new posts..

It's not just you David.

I too miss the "catch up" button, and like you say it did return for a while.

It's posible that most people now use the "latest posts" on the 1st page.
Maybe it's just me, but it now seems that threads seem to "die" prematurely, being replaced by the
next latest thread, sometimes within only hours.

The "red envelopes" and "catch up" seemed to work regardless of how often a person visited the site.

I think it's called progress.

Cheers,
Paul G

No - what I mean is:

* Whenever I visit, I read whatever I want to read.
* When I've finished, I click on the 'Catch Up' button and all 'red envelope' notifications are cleared.
* The next time I visit any 'red envelopes' indicate that there are new unread posts to look at.

This is the way things work on all of the other forums I look at.

Recently I've looked at topics and realised that there were posts there that I hadn't seen, although no 'red envelopes' had been shown when I opened the site.

The 'today' link doesn't cover this problem.
