How about a CAD section?

half of the fun of any project is the planning and designing, right? For some of us, that's about as fun as it gets (have been thinking about building a car for the last 10 years but it seems I still don't have a workshop to build it in). So how about a CAD section where we could share 2D drawings and IGES models for those parts which we will most likely not be manufacturing in our own workshops?

Good idea ! I teach ProDesktop at work and car design always creates a lot of interest. I've had some designs of Flakmonkey and have used them with my students to good effect. Even if you just use cad to look at colour schemes.

Gets my vote. I've been putting off designing my chassis due to not being able to get hold of things like sierra diff, cortina uprights, escort steering rack etc. All the dimensions are fairly widely known but I just can't work up the enthuthiasm to actually model them myself. It'd save a great deal of time if I could just download them from somewhere.

I think that someone mentioned this kind of thing a while back but nothing really came of it. It just ended up being a few people giving personal links to the files they have.

Some definate structure and format would be good. Like subsections for different areas i.e. steering, engine, gearbox etc. And a strict "only in IGES (or whatever) format". Something that everyone is likely to be able to import into their CAD packages. Some of us can't afford Solidworks you know!

My designs are available to download from my website. Both in ProD format and IGES.

A CAD section would be nice, but due to terrible file conversion between different systems may be a nightmare to magane, and not that helpful to people. IGES will work with all systems, but often carries lots of errors with it...

PS Glad the designs were helpful
