Anybody else had a 'messenger service' pop-up advertising some 'work from home and earn £10k a week' boll*cks whilst on this site????

This is a new way of advertising (Spamming), using Microsofts messenger service. The messenger service is supposed to be used by Network Administrators to let all users know when the network was going down or other network related matters. It's a service that runs when you start windows but you can stop it from running.

Don't get this service confused with MSN Messenger it's something completely different.

Do a search on Google

Search for spybot on google. It kills adware and it's free.

If you have had anything it's nothing to do with me!

Two easy ways, if you're running win2k or winxp then right click on my computer, click manage and then click on services, under services select messenger service, right click and select properties, select for it to start manually, and click stop.

If however, for some reason you actually need the messenger service (some UPS's send messages using it to tell you that your computer's going to die) then get a firewall, and put a rule on it to disallow all UDP on port 135.

I believe simply enabling the personal firewall in winxp will stop them as well.

Problem solved!!
