avatar size?
Peteff - 2/3/03 at 03:09 PM

What size should an avatar picture be so as not to intrude on the text section and push it across the page?

yours, Pete.

Assuming a minimum screen size of 800x600 (lets face it, who runs 640x480 nowadays?) you can use up to 110 pixels wide without it effecting the page width.

Thanks Chris, I'll start looking for a picture to stick in.

yours, Pete.

Prior to some of the Mega Avatars we've been seeing lately, I went on the basis of 120 wide, which I then buttonised with a 3 pixel border. That in theory takes the width to 126 pixels, and at that width, didn't seem to affect the page.
It's one thing when a large attached image sends the page into hyper space, but it's annoying when it happens due to a huge avatar!

Ericsson T68 backgrounds make pretty good avatars, as seen on mine (I've also got the same pic on my phone :p).

It's not so much the avatars that bother me, it's some of the ENORMOUS pictures in the gallery, they take an age to load over a modem, and even at home using my 22" monitor running 1280x1024 they still don't fit on the screen.

ChrisW - Probably very low priority this, but is there any chance you could put a button in the photos section or an option in the user config or something, that allows you to view what you select in a new windows with only the picture, that way, people with ie6 could take advantage of the auto resize facility.
