jpeg or jpg are your best bet

Yep, jpg is best, pretty sure gif works as well.

Other things to remember:

1. There is a file size limit, so scaling the image down might be required or saving with more compression.

2. The filenames must be unique - across the whole site not just in your area.

3. Don't use spaces or unusual characters in the filename.
